  • Good enough Indian food

The menu has the vegetarian and vegan entrees fairly well-marked. The food is generally better than either Nawab or Rajput, but none of our local Indian restaurants are as good or as vegan-friendly as the offerings in large metropolitan areas. My husband and one of his college buddy's are also vegan, and they also prefer Monsoon over the other local places. Last week we ordered broccoli with mushrooms, roti, and the vegan dal. The bread does not come for free with the meal, and that is my only complaint. Also, the lunch special, which I have not had for a while, comes with non-vegan naan bread. The servers are pretty good about helping you with anything that is not clearly identified as vegan or not (bread, appetizers, etc.). The price is not cheap (about 13 dollars for a bowl of lentils), but it is on par with other restaurants in its class. They have cloth tablecloths and napkins, with stylish asymetrical bowls, square plates, etc. They have made an effort to have a stylish decor and nice presentation. The location is easy to find, near Macy's department store. The spice level here is quite high. If you order a 2 or 3, it will be hot by American standards (not Indian-hot). I have been here about 5 or 6 times.
