- Great Vegan Eats
It's weird that there is one listing for both the restaurant and the truck here, but my review is for the restaurant in Somerville. I was so excited when this place opened (I'd been to the truck about half a dozen times and I live only a few miles from this location) and I've been enjoying their food almost once a week since their opening last summer. The selection is small, usually 4-5 taco choices, plus dips/sides and once in a while a special. The place is on the small side to eat in, but has 3 decent sized 4-person tables and some bar seating. The decor/atmosphere is green and slightly punk-rock/retro, but clean and professional, not anarchist like the old TJ Skallywaggles. I usually get takeout which is fast and yummy. I often get 2 of the panko-fried tofu, chorizo, seitan or sweet potato tacos and sometimes the nachos side which is good, but quite spicy (& I love their homemade cheese sauce). I usually try the special, if there is one (taquitos, yum) and likewise the fresca. Their taco flavors/combinations are a bit weird, so if you're expecting traditional beans & daiya cheese comfort food, similar to what is at other Northeast Mexican-American places, you might be disappointed. It's all-vegan, by the way. Prices are reasonable, although they are a little stingy with tortilla chips if you get, say, a side of guac and chips. Oh, I almost forgot about the Sabretooth bakery part. It's WONDERFUL to have vegan baked goods available. That said, these are mostly plain cake donuts with different candy toppings and a few cookie options, which are all good, but not the best vegan baked goods I've had & they are a bit pricey as well. The cider donuts are the best donut kind. I'd give 4 stars for Sabretooth and 5 stars for Taco Party, but I'll round the total review up to 5.
