- Buddhist veggie cafe near the jetty
Large spacious cafe, only open for lunch (11.30am - 2.30pm) as it's in the heart of George Town, on Beach Street (Lebuh Pantai). Went towards the end of lunch service, it was just getting less busy & staff looked tired & getting ready for the next day. You order & pay at the counter from a menu (English & Chinese), take a number & it's served to you. Ordered the nasi lemak - with sweet rather than spicy curry, nothing like any nasi lemak I've tasted. Brown rice seems to lack the coconut flavour, which is what nasi lemak is supposed to be. But fills the stomach. Added a fried tofu on the side - again, nothing remarkable. You clear your own table by sorting cutlery into tubs. Somewhere to eat if you're in the area, otherwise, George Town offers plenty of other options. To be fair, there were other dishes on the menu (noodles, claypots & sushi) which other people ordered & may have enjoyed.
