  • Not cheap at all, and not special

Beware of the prices at this place, there's no way this is only 1 dollar sign. A plate of 6 dumplings costs 650¥ (which we hadn't realized when we first sat down), but the lady there suggested we each take a plate of 10, a sample platter, if we were hungry. Given the hole-in-the-wall atmosphere of the place (very small sitting area, all plastic, bug on the wall and a sneezing chef) and our experiences with other gyoza places in Japan, we didn't think it could be that expensive and decided to go with the lady's recommendation. Do make sure you ask for the prices though. While we were waiting, the chef asked if we liked beans, and when we said we did, we had apparently ordered another plate (whereas I was thinking she was asking about our preferences for the gyoza filling), an appetizer with three small soy rolls and some soy meat, and before we got them we heard a suspiciously microwave-sounding ding from the kitchen. Fast forward, we had the appetizer and two plates of 10 gyoza each, getting ready to pay - it's 3000¥! This is for lunch! The sample platter was 1100 each (not on any menu), the appetizer was 580, and tax was added on top. I spent less at Ain.Soph, and they are pricey already. I'm still angry that I didn't stop to check the price, and the dumplings were pretty mediocre too, so it's not even like I feel the money was a good investment. So, if you do decide to go, make sure you check what you are ordering and how much it will cost you, and don't forget that it's not tax-inclusive.
