  • Delighted and Disturbed at the Same Time

From my experience, Huy Vege has plant-based food of many different versions and usually of exceptional quality. However I have always kind of hesitated to visit them because first of all, it's not a vegan restaurant and second of all, it's not even vegetarian (as both happycow page and THEIR DOOR SIGN states). For me, to serve various animal products, whether it's flesh, ova or milk, is all on the same page, morally. However to state that you're a vegetarian place, and to serve animal flesh (and it's not like a recent change, they do so consistently probably not to lose customers) requires a very special kind of opportunism. Come on. Serving flesh plus serving pure plants dishes, with nothing inbetween, doesn't make a restaurant a vegetarian one, anymore that being a vegan six days in the week and eating bacon on Sunday makes me a vegetarian. And it's quite disturbing to dine next to people who eat animals. I'd give Huy Vege four stars for their cuisine and charismatic staff, but have to take away two stars for this unacceptable "public relations" trick.
