- Quiet and friendly but expensive
Just had evening meal at Sanacafe with my omnivorous boyfriend as close to our hotel after a long day out. We were after a meal for €50 approx for both of us and generally managed this around Italy at some nice restaurants. The restaurant was quiet and very nicely presented. We were one of two parties in the restaurant during our meal and staff were attentive. The veggie and vegan choices are clearly identified although anything above 400 calories or carb based is not really available. The cheapest wine was €20 which was a bit out of our budget for that evening. I had a cocktail which was nice but strong and boyfriend had a freshly squeezed orange juice which was very nice seemed to be blood red oranges. Meal wise I had the cheese salad which was four types of cheese on a little bit of rocket. Boyfriend had the lasagne which was veggie although advertised as meat. During the meal I was craving carbs after a fair bit of walking so ordered some bread which ended up being toast. Total was about €42 for us both. The chef asked whether we were enjoying the meal and the waiter who spoke excellent English was keen to engage us and recommend the authentic Italian supermarket and a bakery/ice cream parlour close by. I was after a proper meal after a busy day so left rather hungry and a bit disappointed after my last Happy Cow recommendation in Florence which was so good. Okay if you want a small snack/willing to have or pay for several courses.
