  • Cold food and higher price for foreigners.

This is a typical "cook in the morning, let it sit out until we close at night" kind of place. The cooked food is definitely NOT covered at all. They also leave the vegetables out all day while they pick and cut them for the next day's meal. It's a double whammy of poor practices. I wonder, besides the insects, how much pollution the food absorbs from the bustling road right outside the door. Except there is no door, it's just an open store front face the road and traffic and pedestrians. I admit I am not the most picky eater, so I ate here about five or six times and felt full. I didn't like that the food was cold and uncovered, but, when hungry and wanting to eat before going home, I accepted it. There is a lot of oil, and many things are deep fried. My biggest gripe is just how much salt is in everything here. If you have high blood pressure, or dislike getting dehydrated after eating, then I recommend avoiding this place. The flavors of the foods stand out, but it seems like there is no measuring of how much salt goes into anything cooked. I took my non-Thai friend with me here once the first time we both ate here (I am non-Thai myself), and we paid about 300 baht for our meal. I thought that was really weird for rice and a few veg dishes and a fake hotdog. I went alone the next few times and the prices for the same dishes fluctuated from 200 baht to 160 baht. The old woman there seemed to invent the price out thin air, even though I ate the same thing each time I went. The final time I went, I took a Thai friend and we both ordered the same dishes and same amount. When it came time to pay I was asked 160 baht. My Thai friend was asked 40 baht. I didn't understand what was going on, but we split the bill 50/50 and left. After looking up this place here on Happy Cow, I found out that this is a standard practice for Arawy. I don't appreciate being charged 300+% higher because of my skin and/or that I am from another country. I've lived around Asia and this is the first time this has happened to me at a restaurant. I will never support this restaurant again while living here. There are plenty of other places in the neighborhood and area that will give a fair and non-prejudiced welcome to all comers. It's not about the money, it's about the practice itself, and I refuse to support that when going out to eat. Please consider this if you are thinking of eating at Arawy. I'd give one-start, but Happy Cow won't let me. Updated from previous review on 2018-02-02
