  • Da Terra

Located in a street off Av da Republica in central Matosinhos, by Aven Menreres, roughly a 30 minute bus ride from Porto. Matosinhos council seems not too fond of erecting street names, so take a good map or use Google maps to locate the place. Clean and attractive interior with pleasant ambience. Welcoming, friendly staff. The waiter spoke a little English and called on the chef who spoke more to tell me what offerings were vegan. I visited Da Terra in the evening and for euro 8.50 there was a self-service buffet, of various hot and cold dishes laid out. Greed and hunger motivated me to fill up my plate on the first visit and I found myself unable to finish, but the other diners who seemed to be local, made several trips back and forth and this is a more sensible strategy to avoid waste. I enjoyed Indian style tofu with spinach, plus quinoa, various salads and miniature polenta pieces. The food was tasty and about 20-25% of the stuff on offer was vegan on the night I went although, sadly no vegan desserts, though soya milk was available for coffee. Alcohol served, good wine selection and available by the glass as well as the bottle for plonkies/non plonkies amongst us. From Porto, easily accessible by bus or Metro and well worth the trip. There are limited vegan and veggie options in Porto and the offerings here were tasty and filling. The buffet style means that there'll be at least a few things you would enjoy and if you're a big eater you can really fill up. Very little else like it in the area.
