- Many veggie options!
We like Saha. The dining room is pretty dimly lit and the tables are just far enough apart to make this a perfect date spot. It's situated within a quaint hotel in the Tenderloin. The dining room is a good size but not massive, so it's good to make a reservation. Service has been friendly and knowledgeable on the menu each time we've gone. We've gone a bunch of times for dinner and once for brunch. The menu is very similar for both meals, with a few more breakfast-centric dishes for brunch. The food is very good, especially for vegetarians (the menu is clearly marked as to which dishes are vegetarian)! The menu has something for everyone though (meat eaters and vegetarians alike), without being long and unwieldy, like a diner menu might be. We've shared the yemeni fouel (thick pureed beans with spices - delicious and creamy without the cream and filling), za'atar cauliflower (full head of cauliflower lightly tossed in za'atar, garlic and olive oil and some type of light cream - having a bit of the sauce in every bite is key here), stuffed artichoke hearts with veggies & tofu (another hearty dish without being too large, as to not overfill you - I'm not a tofu person, but it blends well with the vegetables here) and yemeni okra (sautéed very well in a tomato broth). We've opted to stick with these small plates each time to sample more foods. And once you know what you like, why change something good! Surprisingly, we've never tried dessert here, but it is noteworthy that they do have a vegan option. The only odd thing about this place is when you go to the bathroom, it's a full bathroom with a shower across from the restaurant, due to the fact that you're in a hotel. Still, you can't really fault them for that! Overall, a great Arabic cuisine option in SF.
