  • Beware 'Vegan' menu

I'm a vegetarian mother raising 3-year-old twin daughters vegetarian. In fact they have never eaten meat in their lives, or so I thought. My family and I moved to Sullivan’s Island about 1 year ago and I was delighted a local restaurant had a ‘vegan’ menu! Well, while dining at Taco Mamacita last Tuesday, May 28, 2013 I learned from the manager that the 'Vegan' rice contains exactly the same ingredients as the 'standard' menu rice - NO difference, both are made with and contain chicken stock, which by definition makes this not only NOT vegetarian, but NOT VEGAN! I am not only furious, but dismayed this manager was so casual and seemingly indifferent to this issue, which is not only ethically and morally repugnant, but may in fact be illegal in South Carolina If Taco Mamacita does not want to serve two separate menus, they should not falsely purport to do so, it is wilful public harm, questionable moral and ethical business practices, not to mention extremely bad karma.
