  • Best South Indian Restaurant I've Been To...Period

Update 09/23/18: Kamakshi's kitchen has recently been converted to DosaChaatCafe. I suspected that the quality of the restaurant was too high to maintain, and the changing schedules has me worried.I wish the new owner's good luck but wanted to write something that explained how incredible Kamakshi's was. I ate there regularly and brought many people who had never tried South Indian food, each came away loving it. The variety, authenticity and quality of the dishes was unmatched. The owner's enthusiasm for culture (karnathic music was always playing in the background) and uncompromising attitude to quality was clear to everyone. He once mixed a chai in front of me to ensure it was aerated, I now do that with my chai regularly. Kamashi's kitchen is the best restaurant I had ever been to in my life. I am sorry to see it go. ----- I've eaten a lot of dosa, from Toronto to NYC, Jersey and San Francisco. This is the best I've ever had, and the rest of the menu is just perfect...lassi's never taste watered down and you get two parathas with the paneer tikki masala. Right outside San Carlos caltrain makes it perfect to stop at on the commute home. It's nice and clean and there is always good music playing. I would take my parents here and would have no trouble telling them that they are about to have the perfect dosa.
