  • Nice vegan food in Kyoto

We had a nice, relaxed meal at Vegans Cafe and Restaurant on a recent trip to Kyoto. The food we had was really nice. The staff did not speak much English but who cares with a fully vegan picture menu with Engrish wording :). When we were there for a late afternoon lunch the staff were fully engrossed in prepping a huge load of garlic so service wasn't the fastest. But we didn't mind as the food was really flavourful and we were happy to relax and unwind. The cafe has quite a homey / rustic feel. It was a little hard to find from memory (we did not have a data card so we had to try and memorise the location from our hotel - this made it quite an adventure. Next time we will rent a data card or a portable wifi to make things easier) Definitely go there if you find yourself in Kyoto, which is apparently the vegan capital of Japan. ps the green tea ice-cream sounded wierd but it was really nice.
