It was a very funny experience - I met an Australian couple who were stood outside waiting for it to open. We spoke for about 10 minutes - laughing at the misery of trying to fight malnutrition in Japan before parting. To the Australian couple - if you are reading, I also went to another place in Kyoto, again was closed. After 12 hours of wandering - I found a vegan cafe.
