- Highlight of Vientiane
As an avid veganomic tourist, I'm sad to say that Laos is one of the most uninspiring countries my stomach has ever encountered. Hence, when my herbivorous travelling companion and I chanced upon Phounsub (with the assistance of Happy Cow), our Laotian venture transformed considerably! With an abundance of fresh and cooked vegetable dishes (each with distinct flavours and textures), plenty of protein accoutrements, the choice of red or sticky rice, DIY noodle soups and a daily dessert - Phounsub's daily vegan lunch buffet turned our Vientianese hellhole into one of joy. Didn't even bother with the other local options, as we didn't want to miss our daily fix here.
