  • Not Vegan Friendly

I went to "Jack Chen II" after spending the day at Six Flags New England. I found it on my Happy Cow app. There are not many vegan options in the area, it was late and we were starving. It's a tiny little take out place and not a sit down restaurant with any ambiance, waiters or alcoholic drinks. We ate our food on styrofoam plates with plastic forks. I'm vegan and the first thing I noticed was that the owner (who was taking my order) didn't know what vegan was. While it is true that they have a variety of "fake meats," there is no way to verify that they are actually vegan & I personally don't trust it enough to go back and I wouldn't go back. We ordered some food to try and ate it at the restaurant and it was ok. Definitely oily, unhealthy & like I said I'm not convinced it was vegan even after talking to the owner about what I needed (no chicken / meat stock, eggs, fish sauce etc...). We were really hungry after Six Flags so we ordered vegetable fried rice, a seitan dish, curry soy protein and a broccoli dish. I only gave them 2 stars because the portions were big & they at least have seitan & soy protein and most places do not have that so perhaps they are trying? I don't recommend this restaurant and I would recommend trying to find somewhere else to eat. I won't eat the leftovers & I hate wasting food. The worst part of my experience came when I asked to use the bathroom. I wish I never asked. The bathroom was filthy & the sink was filled with things and unusable. I had to walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom & that was a vegans nightmare. I'm not exaggerating when I say that there were giant buckets filled with blood & meat & long bloody gloves laying around all over the place. I felt like it was something you would see in a slaughterhouse and it totally turned my stomach and made me wish I never had eaten there. I felt sick. I don't know why those buckets were all out like that but I didn't need to see it. This is definitely not a vegan friendly establishment.
