- Stylish and traditional mediterranean food
A very nice place to spend an evening with friends (though only a few of them, the restaurant is very small and seems to have many friends in Florence). 5 e cinque is in a way a nice reminiscence of the past, decorated with old photographs in black-and-white, a simple but very stylish interior, and its crew which seemed more like a group of friends and family who enjoy having guests. Moreover, they were extremely helpful about explaining which items on the menu were vegan, or could be veganized. The menu is very traditional, instead of asian ingredients like tofu or seitan the chef prefers classical mediterranean recipes with chick-peaks, lentils, cereals or vegetables, very basic, very stylish, though sometimes maybe at bit frugal. It does not boast of originality, but this is explicitly not its aim. This is certainly cucina povera, not cucina alto-borghese. A bit more modernisation in some place or other would not come amiss, though. The food is light and tasty, wines (all organic, like the food) are delicious, and they even offer: ... good vegan sweets! Thank heaven for 5 e cinque!
