  • Reservations Highly Recommended

I was in Lafayette for 4 days and tried to eat at the Copper Dog with no success. Accordingly, my rating for this review is based on aspects of the restaurant other than the taste of the food. Long story short, call and make reservations before you go whether it's for lunch or dinner. Think of this more as a semi-private dining experience than a regular restaurant, kind of like Schwa in Chicago. I went by on Friday at 3pm to find them closed. They close between lunch and dinner. Then on Saturday I called to confirm that they were open. No answer. I kept getting the recording. The posted hours say they are open until 8pm on Saturdays so I stopped by at 7pm to find all the chairs on the table and the place closed up. The owner was kind enough to come over when he saw me at the door. He told me they closed b/c they ran out of food. He said everything is made fresh and when they're out, they're out. I appreciate that everything is made fresh, but there can be no doubt you will lose customers with unreliable hours. Moreover, I showed up an hour before closing on a Saturday night, not 10 mins before closing on a Tuesday. Anyone coming after me would have no idea why they were closed, would probably be annoyed and not come here again. They're also closed Sundays and Mondays. Irregular hours aside, the menu looks incredible and a gourmet vegetarian restaurant is a wonderful addition to Lafayette. p.s. They have vegan-friendly wine now.
