- What vegan options?
I was so confused when I went to the Floridian with my family, tonight. We're all vegan, so we chose this restaurant based on reviews. Google even listed it as "Vegan Restaurant." When we got there, the only vegan appetizer was the fried pickles. I've had good fries pickles, but these were limp and soggy. We then searched the menu to find something we could eat. There was no mention of vegan options on the menu. The restaurant is decorated with taxidermy animals and alligator heads/skulls. 90% of the menu was meat. Most of the rest had cheese. We had to choose between asking the server if the veggie burger and bun were vegan and then ordering without mayo, or a Thai curry dish (unless it uses prepackaged Thai sauces, which often include fish oil). Since the restaurant was packed and was clearly more of a carnivorous type of place, we decided not to bother the staff. We left, and went to the Present Moment Cafe, where almost everything is vegan (including some amazing ice cream!) This was a bit of a hassle, since I had my extremely hungry three and six year old kids with me, and my husband and I were trying to celebrate my mother-in-law's visit. Reviews mentioned tempeh and all sorts of other veggie foods. We saw none of that.
