- Diverse menu, open for dinner
The most distinguishing feature of Ting Yuen is that it seems to be the only veg restaurant in the Sandakan area that's open for dinner (at least as of Feb 2017). It's ovo-vegetarian, but most of the dishes seem to be vegan. There's a gentleman who speaks a modicum of English who can answer questions about ingredients. Each dish on the menu is offered in three sizes. Even the small size is fairly generous; the larger sizes are meant for big groups to share. For two people with average appetites, sharing 3 smalls might be enough. We sampled five dishes, of which one was excellent (kidney mushroom something), two were pretty good, and two were somewhat plain but fine. There's nothing healthy to drink (other than water). There are signs advertising fruit juices, but turns out those are powdered. Note the water chestnut beverage contains egg.
