- Kindfood - Wonderful Neighbourhood Spot
As a meat-eating, non-vegan who is trying to incorporate a wider variety of healthy foods into her diet, I was overjoyed to discover Kindfood on John Street in the heart of the downtown core. What drew me in initially was the colourful exterior with the whimsical sun artwork on the face of the building. What has kept me coming back is the incredible array of scrumptious take-out treats and interesting grocery items. The staff live and breathe their products and can speak knowledgeably about anything on the shelves. So, not only was I able to enjoy some fabulously delicious food, I was also educated about what I was eating. The desserts - every single one that I have tried - are incredible! My greatest "aha!" moment was discovering the OMG Grilled "Cheese" sandwich, made with Daiya cheddar. I have sampled some foul-tasting vegan cheeses in my time, so I was sceptical. Daiya cheese is a revelation for those of us who are trying to minimize our dairy intake, but still want the comfort food experience that only real cheese is able to provide......until Daiya came along! I purchased a container of grated Daiya cheddar today and plan to make my beloved Mac & Cheese, only guilt-free this time. Be sure to pick up a couple of vegan brownies or cupcakes when you visit. Bravo, Kindfood, for luring in us non-vegans and providing food so incredibly delicious that we forget how healthy it actually is!
