• Great Co-op in a Great Location

Traveling from Des Moines to Milwaukee a friend of mine and I had decided to eat at the Red Avocado in Iowa City, IA. After our meal we stopped by New Pioneer to pick up a few things for our roadtrip. New Pioneer is just about the gold standard when it comes to health food co-ops. There was plenty of staff on hand, all very helpful and knowledgeable. They offer a large selection of organic produce and also feature a bakery/kitchen which prepares tons of bread, to-go sandwiches, pastas, cookies and other treats, etc. I concur that the "Cashew on a Hot Tin Roof" is a fantastic sandwich. The artichoke heart and pesto pasta salad was also delicious. Mind you, if you are just passing through and are not a member there is a 5% non-member surcharge added to each item. If you live in the Iowa City area it is easily worth it to join!
