  • Excellent food -- excellent menu

My husband and I, who live in Sacramento, headed to Napa for a 4-day weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We drove north from Napa one day to visit Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve outside of Guerneville (highly recommended) and looked for a veggie place to have lunch in the Santa Rosa area. We're thrilled we stopped at Slice of Life. The menu is extensive, with numerous options, the food is wonderful, and the service was great. Based on the recommendations of other reviewers, we tried a pesto pizza. I wouldn't normally eat pizza for lunch but it sounded too good to pass up. We ordered it on a gluten-free crust (which was really delicious -- nice and crisp, not cardboard-y like many GF crusts I've had). We requested that the pesto be swirled with the thick and tasty tomato sauce -- it was excellent. Hubby and I only managed to consume about 2/3 of the pizza and were super full. The leftovers were delicious later! (Note: All pizzas can be ordered by the slice. I have never before encountered this when ordering GF pizza; I always have to buy the entire thing.) No room for dessert, though they looked tasty. As we left the restaurant to head to Armstrong Redwoods, we'd already decided to stop by the restaurant again for dinner on our way back to Napa -- it was that good. Dinner did not disappoint. My husband ordered the steamed seasonal vegetable bowl. It was filled with a variety of seasonal, perfectly-cooked veggies and brown rice, topped with the sauce of the day (I can't recall what it was, but it was delicious). I had the nutburger on a gluten-free bun (again, super tasty, not cardboard-y, and totally worth the $1 extra charge) with a side salad and "hot airs" (baked French fries). Okay, not a low-cal dinner, but it was delicious. I was too full for dessert but hubby ordered the apple/pear crisp -- gluten free and tasty. I wish we lived closer as we'd eat here all the time. Can't recommend it highly enough.
