- A refreshing alternative
Amidst all the dizzying restaurant options surrounding Union Square, few of which accommodate vegan choices, Golden Era was a refreshing alternative, offering vegan dishes that even meat-eating folks can enjoy. The portions are large and reasonably priced, and the menu offers a lot of options, from starts, entrees, and deserts (the flan was exquisite). The service was kind and well-informed, and the space was gentle and clean. The pot stickers were deep-fried, which was surprising (since.. aren't they, by name, suppose to be fan-fried until they're crispy on the bottom and stick to the pan?).. and many other choices could have been made in the preparation of the food to make it healthier (be it less oil, soy, or salt).
