  • Good food, poor value

After being stuffed to the gills at Sunny Place, Mikoan and Cafe Proverbs 15:17 we were sadly disappointed by dinner at Vegenote. Our meal came to 3100 yen with two entrees, a pint and desert. While this kind of price isn't unexpected in Japan, it's the portions that dragged Vegenote down in our book. Today's obanzai at 900 yen was three small piles of what would have been side dishes or appetizers at some of the aforementioned locations. I guess we were just spoiled on some of the other vegan options in Kyoto, where 2000 yen leaves you feeling like you are about to burst, because the food at Vegenote was very good, just not very filling. Oh, and there are English menus, but the staff seemed unsure of our selections even when pointing to them.
