I've eaten here a couple of times - alone - in the last two weeks. The first time was wonderful, which is why I went back! The second time, not so wonderful... On my first visit I had tempura vegetable (listed as a starter) and then vegetable spaghetti 'bolognese'. The vegetable tempura was vast (much more filling than the 'main course' spaghetti) but was delicious, with a lovely tomato-based sauce. The spaghetti was fine - nothing overly special, but nice. Service was prompt; the waiter was friendly and efficient. The second time I went to Almanera, it was a different story. The waitress sat down chatting with a group of her friends and ignored everyone for ages - I eventually managed to catch her eye (only from the next table!) to order a drink... This time I ordered two starters instead of a starter and a main: tempura vegetables again (they were so scrummy last time) and something that I really can't remember, but which was fine. The tempura vegetables came with a different sauce - not so nice, and really cold (although I seem to remember the first time it was warm) and the vegetables (or the batter, more likely) were SO salty they were virtually inedible, and even the next morning I had a raging thirst. I know I should have complained, but I didn't have the confidence in Spanish to complain to a waitress sitting at a table full of her friends... Had I just been the first time to Almanara, I would have recommended it without hesitation. Now, perhaps not. Both times were in the evening, by the way.
