  • Oasis in a vegan desert

Although it cost us a taxi fare every time we went, we really liked this restaurant. Nice people, consistently good food, in fact beautifully tasty at times, it was our saviour in our first stop in Myanmar and before we could get our heads around some of the street food. Pumpkin curry, Tea leaf salad, Aubergine dip 3,500, potato curry with coconut milk and tamarind 3,500, chappattis, tofu noodle soup, a rather odd daal, pineapple juice were all good to outstanding with prices around the 2,000 to 3,500 Kyat mark it may be viewed as slightly higher than some places but I'd happily eat here again. Sadly some things were not yet in season but we never got bored eating there on 3 separate days. Plenty of choice for vegans and the man speaks good English, is very friendly and Can adjust dishes to suit. Some mixed veg/non-veg Indian and cafe recommendations in other sites were actually desperately bad. We've eaten in plenty of sketchy cafes and restaurants in India but the filthy roadside settings were comparable with places that our Indianfriends would not contemplate so if you are planning ahead, save yourself some wasted time and disappointment when hungry and go for Marie Min. A 2nd alternative would be Diamond Ring Indian pure vegetarian and sweet centre which offers lovely Masala Dosa 1500 Kyats And chai 500 Kyats. Check timings 09-91002870, 5195494. as they closed the kitchen early one time around 8:30pm. Sweets were pretty good though! 117, 35th Street, between 75th & 76th Streets.
