To someone starting out, a vegan diet can seem\ninconvenient, expensive, and bland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perlmutter has positioned VegReady to address this in a number of\nways. For maximum convenience, the meal delivery is a subscription service. The\nfood comes pre-cooked and ready to eat. Unlike other meal delivery services\nthat have frozen foods that require refrigeration, VegReady meals have a\n12-month shelf life without refrigeration. This means subscribers don\u2019t have to\nfuss with delivery schedule coordination or food waste. And once they\u2019ve\nreceived the meals, they can be stored in the cabinet or even in a desk at work\n\u2013 making it as easy as possible to eat plant-based foods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTexture is everything,\u201d said Perlmutter, referring to his strict\nfocus on making the meals tasty and delicious. \u201cFreezing wasn\u2019t an option\nbecause it turns everything to mush. So we found a technology that allowed us\nto preserve the food while maintaining its freshness and incredible flavor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The startup is sourcing its first set of meals from Peru, which\nattracted Perlmutter because of their total ban on GMOs. VegReady\u2019s<\/a> Peruvian cuisine features\nfoods like quinoa, spinach, tomato and mango.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perlmutter hopes VegReady will be useful not just for established\nvegans and those transitioning, but especially for anyone who wants to help\ntheir family and friends in their transition. Eric Brent, the founder of\nHappyCow, is on board with this approach as well, \u201cMark is a long-time friend\nand I’ve watched as he has created VegReady meals. Finally, all vegans have a\ngreat tool to help their friends and family eat more plant-based.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The VegReady mission for the future is to roll out over 200\ndifferent meals that can be personalized to a person\u2019s DNA and microbiome. \u201cThe\nfuture of food is going to be very personalized, so we\u2019re setting VegReady up\nto be a major player in that space.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
