But no crowing or exultation was made in the lay or trade press. The Performing Animals Defence League got busy, wrote letters and pulled wires in influential quarters; so much so that Buckingham Palace got the wind up and informed Tennent, of the Moss Empires, that the seal act could not appear. There&#8217;s a pretty kettle of fish. They were to save their face and keep as quiet as possible. Accordingly, it was arranged that Marcelle&#8217;s seal was to go &#8220;sick&#8221;on the Thursday evening before the show and that it would not finish the week out, but that Moss Empires would pay the salary in full. The news broke Marcelle up.<\/a><\/li><li class='ez-toc-page-1 ez-toc-heading-level-4'><a href=\"https:\/\/www.happycow.net\/blog\/performing-seals-uk-royalty-ar-activists\/#Then_rumour_got_busy_on_the_Tuesday_before_the_show_and_the_papers_came_out_with_the_stunt_that_the_act_had_been_%E2%80%9Cbanned%E2%80%9D_The_P_A_D_L_immediately_made_great_capital_out_of_the_matter_and_the_papers_were_full_of_it_all_over_again_The_truth_is_Buckingham_Palace_was_not_wise_enough_to_remember_the_outcry_against_animal_acts_in_the_House_of_Commons_and_were_afraid_to_adhere_to_their_selection_Of_course_the_animal_men_are_highly_incensed_at_the_capital_made_out_of_it_but_had_the_artistes_protested_too_loudly_it_was_possible_that_the_King_might_have_been_%E2%80%9Csick%E2%80%9D_also_and_that_would_have_finished_everything\" class=\"ez-toc-link ez-toc-heading-53\"  >Then rumour got busy on the Tuesday before the show and the papers\u00a0came out with the stunt that the act had been &#8220;banned&#8221;. The truth is Buckingham Palace was not wise enough to remember the outcry against animal acts in the House of Commons, and were afraid to adhere to their selection. But no crowing or exultation was made in the lay or trade press. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.happycow.net\/blog\/the-brown-linties-by-jessey-wade-featuring-ernest-bell-as-mr-friend\/\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"  target=\"_blank\">The Performing Animals Defence League<\/a><\/span> got busy, wrote letters and pulled wires in influential quarters; so much so that Buckingham Palace got the wind up and informed <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/H._M._Tennent\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external nofollow\">Tennent<\/a><\/span>, of the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Moss_Empires\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external nofollow\">Moss Empires<\/a><\/span>, that the seal act could not appear. There&#8217;s a pretty kettle of fish. They were to save their face and keep as quiet as possible. Accordingly, it was arranged that Marcelle&#8217;s seal was to go &#8220;sick&#8221;on the Thursday evening before the show and that it would not finish the week out, but that Moss Empires would pay the salary in full. The news broke Marcelle up.<\/h4>\n<h4 class=\"_209g _2vxa\" style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 30px;\" data-block=\"true\" data-offset-key=\"9ar8d-0-0\" data-reactid=\".5x.1.0.1.0.0.$editor0.0.0.$9ar8d\">Then rumour got busy on the Tuesday before the show and the papers\u00a0came out with the stunt that the act had been &#8220;banned&#8221;. The P. A. D. L. immediately made great capital out of the matter and the papers were full of it, all over again. The truth is Buckingham Palace was not wise enough to remember the outcry against animal acts in the House of Commons, and were afraid to adhere to their selection.
