Gourmet vegan chocolate is practically my favorite food in the world. So you can imagine the heavenly joy I felt when my husband brought me a large bag of chocolate assortments from different gourmet chocolatiers that had recently participated as exhibitors at the Natural Food Products Expo in Anaheim, California.
For those who don’t know about it, the Natural Foods Expo is a convention that brings together all the manufacturers and distributors of natural, organic, vegetarian, vegan, raw, and gourmet foods and products who wish to have a stake in the American food market. Notable VEG food vendors include all the big names like House Tofu, Gardenburger, White Wave (maker of Silk soymilk), Amy’s Kitchen, Tofurky, Follow Your Heart, Daiya Cheese, Fabe’s, Fieldroast, and [insert your favorite food brand]. Everyone who’s anyone in the natural food industry was there.
Among the fine vegan chocolate varieties in my goodie bag, I found two brands to be particularly rich and delightful. The first is Pacari, a line of premium organic chocolate and the first single-origin organic chocolate made in entirely in Ecuador. All of their ingredients are 100% organic and produced according to fair and equitable standards. Totally dairy-free and low in sugar, it’s hands-down one of my favorites. Another brand that makes lovely chocolates is Xan Confections. Their chocolates come in a wide range of flavors and shapes, including many vegan ones. Xan Confections’ non-dairy and gluten-free chocolates are also low-glycemic and low on calories, but still very rich and satisfying.
