The name is an acronym for salvar a los animales (save the animals) and also means "living room" in Spanish. Sala is a restaurant, but also a place for vegans, vegetarians and friends to congregate, have meetings and enjoy the safe, compassionate environment. There is a mezzanine space that can be used for conferences and meetings (contact the owner to inquire about using the space).

Part of Indian vegetarian restaurant chain. There are two restaurants at this location. Upstairs (inside) is fine-dining, accentuated with Indian art and handicrafts, with occasional performances. Downstairs (down the ramp to the car-park) is an inexpensive riverside cafe. A buffet is available Friday, Saturday, Sunday. It is run as a non-profit organization. Its adage is "athithi devo bhava" meaning "the guest is God." This is a tribute to the Goddess of Plenty or Abundance, Annalakshmi.
