Guidelines for submitting NON-veg "vegetarian-friendly" restaurants
Please submit restaurants that primarily serve CRUELTY-FREE food
Preferably, at least 60% of the menu should be vegetarian, or where a high percentage of the menu is available as vegetarian & vegan (dairy-free, egg-free) options, and where the owners demonstrate respect for the lives of animals and the environment.
When making the decision whether or not to list a non-veg/veg-friendly restaurant, these are points we consider:
Points that help it get listed:
- An entirely separate vegetarian menu
- A kitchen which prepares vegetarian separately from flesh meat
- A menu which has many veg*n options clearly labeled
- A business which is 70%+ organic or sustainably-locally sourced
- An attitude by the restaurant management of respecting vegetarians and working toward accommodating them as well as showing compassion for animals served as food (i.e., free-range, cage free)
- A website with menu posted which supports any of the above points
- No pure veg restaurants exist in the city, but the city is listed already on HappyCow
Points that may block it from getting listed:
- Restaurant serves veal, fois gras, or lamb (too cruel to stomach)
- Serves the products of "factory farming" (intensive animal farming)
- Typical Thai, Ethiopian, Chinese, Japanese, or Falafel places with little specifically designed for veg*ns and printed on the menu
- Pizza place with a vegan cheese but nothing else offered on the menu as "vegan topping" (i.e., no soy sausage, mock pepperoni, etc.)
- Veg-option is limited to a hummus wrap and a couple salads
- Your submission is NOT mostly vegetarian, and you do not explain why it should be listed
Additional points:
- Please refrain from submitting the same restaurant multiple times
- We are a volunteer-based service with limited resources, we give priority to 100% vegetarian restaurants
- The above conditions do not guarantee a non-veg listing will be approved
Many thanks for your participation & support.
