Vermilion

I really wanted to love this place. The food wasn’t very good. I ended up getting an app for dinner because they had very few vegan options. I’m not sure if it is just a post Covid menu but it was disappointing. The service was bad but our waiter was clearly new and he had a great attitude so I’m able to overlook that. They delivered my partners dinner to another table. They realized it, brought it back to the kitchen and then brought it back out to him, cold.

Five stars, amazing food and service!

Who knew Indian and Latin food would fuse so fabulously?!? Add to it fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable service, super cool decor, and this was a vegan foodie’s delight!! Many items on menu are already vegan or can be made vegan, our waiter Dominic was very vegan fluent and charming, the drinks were perfect compliments to the spice profiles, and the chef Rahul even made us an unforgettably yummy dessert! We will be back often.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Delicious , Service was fantastic!

Cons: None!

Uneasy server but great food

My server here was really uneasy with serving someone who was vegan, but he was able to make great suggestions. I had so much food, excellent cocktails, and a night to remember!

Pros: Good vegan options, Flavorful food, Great cocktails

Cons: Pricey, Seemed to be empty

Mixed Feelings

Gourmet vegan food is my dream. And I love Indian food so I wanted to love this place. The environment here is posh and upscale. I got the vegan tasting menu. It's $65. The food was good but not $65 good. It was just regular Indian food served in smaller portions on fancier dishes with different presentation. Made to look more expensive but the food itself was standard fare. The restaurant still has problems with timing and inattentive service. My main course arrived cold. Service, when you get it, is always very friendly and wonderful though. I think they are just understaffed.

5 STARS! INCREDIBLE

Boyfriend and I were in chi for our anniversary on a Sunday night. Our server Benji was BEYOND accommodating to my being vegan, knew everything about the menu and recommended the most amazing food. I got the artichokes and the Gobi and was beyond satisfied and the taste was incredible. Over all amazing experience. Wish I could give 5 stars!!! Ps. Thanks Benji!

Delicious

If I could give this 5 stars I would! (But happy cow doesn't let you give 5 stars to places that serve meat). This place has great vegan options! I had the artichoke appetizer, lentil soup, and gobi portuguese. All were vegan as-is! Also our server, Benji was so amazing! He did a great job taking care of us and made an incredible cocktail! This place is a must if your in Chicago!

Overpriced, bad service and ok food

I went there with a Groupon to try out the tasting menu. They treated me like a second class customer since I had a Groupon which is unacceptable. The service was slow, the waiter was snotty and after a long wait the food was just so-so. Then even with the Groupon the bill was exorbitant. I won't be going back here.

Cons: Pricey, Poor Service, So-So Food

Vermilion

My experience here was fantastic...

I was super excited to try Vermilion for two reasons: (1) Chef Maneet Chauhan of Chopped and Iron Chef was/is an influence to this restaurant and (2) Many recommendations from numerous people.

So we made finally made reservations. Our server was friendly, but overall service was spotty (forgotten drinks, inattentiveness, etc.). The drinks were creative, unique, and quite tasty. I highly recommend the saffron coconut cream martini, which is vegan.

Since there were so many unique items on the menu, we decided to order the tasting menus - which consist of plenty of food to keep you full. I ordered the vegetarian tasting menu and they prepared the entire thing vegan for me without a problem. Every item served was absolutely delectable, the only thing I did not like was the eggplant (overcooked and weird flavoring) but everything else more than made up for it. Overall Vermilion was a homerun - it's my new favorite place to get a fancy pants vegan meal.
