Mixed menu and feelings

3 Posted on 08 / 22 / 2014

I have mixed feeling about Govinda. I've been there several times since it changed name and it always seems there's something missing.

The Menu is very attractive, in English, with many options of different types of cuisine (Middle Eastern, Italian, Asian), Indian flavours being predominant.

The menu might be a bit overwhelming at first as you might have a hard time to decide what to have. The portions have a good perfect and the food is generally tasty (home-made like), including starters and desserts.

The restaurant is very small and even if it was bigger the cook would not be able to quickly deliver many requests at the same time (this is what happens in summer when there's a terrace outside and you might have to wait for an hour to be served). This might be due not only to the fact that they have one cook only, but also to the different choices on the menu.

Ideally try to go there not at peak hours (which in Poland might be before 18h and after 20h).

AMAZING!!!

A quaint little restaurant, but don't be fooled by it's small appearance; Govinda is a fabulous place to dine in Warsaw. Seating is limited indoors, so that does mean people will be smoking outside, unfortunately. That being said, the food makes up for it, by far! They are understaffed, but knowing that everything is being made fresh on order is a comfort that makes it worth the wait. My advice is to go with a group for an early dinner that's stretched out over an hour or two and share a few mains. The portions are LARGE -- I had read another review that said the opposite, so unfortunately, we ordered a lot and it was too much. The food is quite rich too (from nuts and oils), so it sits heavy, meaning you don't need a huge portion to be satisfied. The food was presented in such a beautiful and rich fashion; we were all impressed and pleasantly surprised, because you wouldn't expect that from such a small place. My parents and I ordered a mango shake, falafel appetizer, pakora appetizer, whole wheat spaghetti with mushrooms and truffle oil, rice with tofu and mushrooms, a beet root and peas curry, and soy chai. Unfortunately, the dessert selection was limited the day we went, so we held off. Overall, a great find!

Pros: amazing food (very rich), gourmet presentation and taste, friendly staff
Cons: outdoor seating = second-hand smoke, limited dessert selection

Not too impressed. Slow service that isn't very friendly and food you've had a thousand times before.

Pros: all vegan

THE BEST

5 Posted on 08 / 08 / 2014

I use to look for vegan restaurants on HappyCow before visiting another countries and I found this page with few reviews about Govinda. Because of it, I didn't expect too much.
But after eating in dozen different places in Europe during an one month trip, it happened that Govinda became my favorite restaurant ever. Lovely staff, tasty food, big portions and nice atmosphere. I strongly recommend: the south indian soup, spaghetti with mushrooms and cashew nuts, italian risotto with tomatoes and basil, ginger-lemon tea, shake (made of banana, apple and strawberry), omelette, et cetera (yeah, they have a lot of excelent plates).
One more thing it's important to say: Govinda has principles. The menu informs: "Govinda do not use sugar, chemical additives and flavor enhancers; all colors and flavors derived from nature". The delicious desserts are made with fruits and nuts, and you can sweeten your tea with agave syrup.
If you are in Warsaw, you MUST GO there. It's just perfect.

Pros: Small prices, Friendly staff, VERY TASTY

Basic, nice food

Cute little restaurant with an esoteric touch. All food is vegan. We had tofu-spinach and tomato curries, nice pakoras and a very delicious cake there. Unfortunately, the portions of the curries were rather small, so I got hungry after 2 hours again. So, I suggest to take a starter before the main dish.

Pros: Basic, but nice food, Cute restaurant

i was really happy to see how many vegan places exist in warsaw. i went to govinda just once and was found there a vast offer (including many gluten free options) and a friendly staff ready to personalize the dishes. i took a raw energy bowl filled with nuts and dried fruits (bajaderka) and a mixed fruit smoothie with coconut milk. delicious! my friend took a cantonese style rice dish. the portions were big and we were really satisfied.

Pros: cheap, tasty food, friendly staff
Cons: small interior

Little vegan India in Warsaw

4 Posted on 01 / 01 / 2014

Rebranding is a really great thing! I knew this place as "Vegetarian World" and a little bit afraid to come, but now, as "Govinda" it looks fresh and interesting. We ordered tomato/basil soup and tofu, the both dishes were great! If you love traditional Indian kitchen and if you are vegan, I can definitely recommend to come here!

Pros: Everything is vegan! , Dog friendly, Interesting menu
Cons: There is no remark about that everything is vegan!

Cute little place

A nice homely little place, narrow inside with around 10 seats and a kitchen area at the rear. All food is vegan and fresh. As with all Govinda type places it's cheap and basic but tasty. Perfect for a quick food stop or a lunchtime fill prior to a day exploring Warsaw. Easy to find, don't be afraid to go in if no one else is eating you will be made to feel very welcome indeed

Pros: cheap
Cons: small, basic
