Great concept. Come in, grab menu, fill out little form for what you want, take to counter and pay. Then sit back and wait for these awesome meals to come out. Very vegan accommodating , with all dishes clearly marked and a special vegan only centre at the back of menu. This is a must place to visit. Will not disappoint

Completely vegetarian menu with vegan options clearly marked. To order, you fill out an order form and take it up to the counter to pay. Cutlery, crockery, free green tea etc. is all self serve. Open 7 days a week.

Pros: fast service, great food, variety of vegan options
Cons: can be busy, location can be short on parking

A very unique place!

This place is so strange but it completely rules. It started out as a Bubble Tea cafe - at least 50 flavours of bubble tea with many made from real tea & actual fruit. (Most new joints use flavoured syrups.) Then they introduced a very extensive mock meat veggie menu. Very vegan friendly as the menu lists exactly which dishes are vegan. Awesome! The ordering system is unique but fun. The place is huge & can get quite busy, they have K-pop or J-pop music playing usually & strange music videos on a big screen. Karaoke upstairs. The staff wear cute orange aprons & matching head scarf. Near the counter they sell sweet buns for take away & there is a freezer section where you can purchase take away mock meat for your own cooking adventures.

Pros: Huge menu, Unique experience, Bubble tea

Fun Fast Food

You are guarenteed fast, satisfying service as Utupia. Although, in summer is can get unbearably hot with no air conditioning upstairs in Northbridge. The menu is a diverse selection of asian mock-meat dishes, and while not everything is vegan, if you ask I think it can be clarified which of the mock meat products may contain dairy/egg.

My favourite dish is the crumbed mushrooms, which I could basically snack on all day. We have never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a meal so it's great if you're in the mood for your mock meat fast. A lot of non-vegetarians don't know about Utopia so it is always fun to introduce them to the menu and bubble tea is always a welcome bonus. There is also karaoke rooms to book on the top floor, if you are in the mood.

Pros: fast, good service, big menu
Cons: no air-con, food quality varies, limited flavour palette

Formosa Vegetarian Eating House Kardinya

Posted on 09 / 25 / 2011

Yesterday I visited the Formosa Eating House in Kardinya, Shop 7, 23 South Street, Kardinya, WA 6163 ph (08) 9331 6677.

The eating house is very spacious and clean with a massive menu accompanied by pictures, so you get an idea about what you are ordering.

All of us (several non vegetarians and one skeptic) were thrilled with the ample size of the servings as well as the taste. The restaurant was almost full when we arrived. Complimentary tea is served before the meal and mock meat and other items are available for you to purchase. Service was prompt, meal was piping hot and tasty. Vegetable tofu soup is delicious and refreshing especially eaten with some steamed rice. Spicey BBq mock beef is very nice according to the skeptic sitting at our table. We will all go back again.

Pros: Food is inexpensive, Extensive menu, Spacious restaurant
Cons: No dessert menu, No bubble tea

Haven for vegies

Sometimes it's just nice to go somewhere and not have to struggle to find something "nice" to eat, what you actually feel like as opposed to what you "can" have. This menu is HUGE, with pictures so there is sure to be something there that you are in the mood for.

Pros: Loads of choices, Price, Fast
Cons: self ordering, Kareoke only on weekends

So so

Feel disappointed recently with most of the food there. Reason: the taste of the food has no standard. It seems like whether you will have nice dish or not, it depends on the chef cooking the dish. That means, if the chef has plain taste buds, you will end up having less-salt dishes. But if you are lucky enough, the head chef cooks your food and yes his cooking is nice!

The other example is the vegetable they put in one dish. One day you can have Bok Choy, but the other day you order the same dish bok choy might be replaced with something else.

Pros: Sell Bubble tea, Video Clip entertainment
Cons: Food can be nice but awful other time

Nice Food, though I would prefer to be deaf...

The food is incredibly nice here. There is also a huge range of food, having eaten there maybe... 10 times in the last couple months I feel that says something, though I do live nearby and i'm generally too lazy to cook my own food. The one thing that irritates me is the music that plays there is incredibly annoying but that is due to personal tastes.

Pros: Excellent Food, Portions
Cons: Noise, Music

This restaurant has a different ordering system which is great when you get used to it. As a totally vegetarian place, it's easier to order and it's fun, fast and sometimes very tasty.

Pros: All soy products, cheap, extremely vegan-friendly

A very great & unique business appearance concept there with good environment choices. LOTS of delicious menus at pretty competative good/affordable price @ such a cozy interior at Perth Northbridge. A real Utopia in Perth, especially for vegetarian people!
Thanks to my friend who brought me there (need to walk inside & upstair from main 'restaurant street' though)!

Pros: Try "Curry Laksa Kuey Teow", Young & Smiley waitress/waiter, u'll b amazed by the serving size..
Cons: Not obvious from the street

Have always loved this place. Fun food, take home frozen delights and great Karaoke (own room) upstairs that is BYO too until today when I read this:
http://www.public.health.wa.gov.au/cproot/1738/2/Notification%20of%20Convictions%20V13%2012%20Jan%202009%20_8_.pdf
Looks like their food handling practices haven't been all that good! Am quite freaked out because I love it there!! I am going to post a similar message on the Maya Marsala post too as they are listed.....

Pros: tasty & cheap, Take home frozen delights, karaoke
Cons: health dep conviction!

Very funky

Posted on 01 / 05 / 2009

We had a great dinner at the upstairs Utopia restaurant while on holidays in Perth recently.

The decor is really funky and for those who are into Asian Karaoke, just look at the big TV screen and sing along or hire your private room upstairs.

The menu was HUGE so it took us a while to decide on what to get. Eventually we filled out the little order form and took it to the counter, only to realize that the dishes we had chosen weren't vegan. Anyway we were lucky second time around.

The food was really yummy and we wished we had more time in Perth to go to Utopia more than just once.

We were really full after starter and mains but we couldn't resist having some vegan bubble milk tea with sago. YUM!

There seems to be a couple of Utpoia bakerys around Perth that sell creamy looking buns and cakes and also bubble tea. We didn't check them out because we thought there probably wouldn't be any vegan options.

I previously wrote the "Thumbs Up For The FOOD" review as a guest a while back. Would still have to give this place the choice award for Asian Vegetarian food.

Pros: Seawood Rolls, Seawood Rolls, Seawood Rolls
Cons: Parking in Northbridge very bad

I really love this restaurant it has a great ambience, you can sit in lounge chairs which is cool and is the best vegetarian restaurant i've dined in in Perth. Has a great selection of bubble teas(you can get some non-dairy) and the meals are good value to. They have a big selection of mock meat and a reasonible selection of tofu dishes which is fab cause im not so into the whole mock meat thing. All in all I was really impressed with this restaurant.

Pros: good value, funky interior
