Vegan?

This place should possibly be taken off as vegan. No vegan menu and did not see vegan options. The servers couldn't understand me when I mentioned the word vegan. Very perplexed look on their faces.

Scary

I do not feel confident that my order didn’t have fish sauce. The two employees did not speak good English and seemed confused about fish sauce. She kept saying, “no sauce?” I said no fish sauce. Then she kept saying “it’s a nice sauce, no fish”. Maybe some employees are more knowledgeable but not the two today

Should be 5 stars...

This is by far my favorite Chinese place in Springfield. They can turn almost anything vegan. They're knowledgeable. Just let them know you're vegan and you'd like to swap out the meat w/ tofu or wheat gluten (I suggest the tofu) and omit any fish sauce. It'll be some of the best vegan food you've ever had. I personally suggest sesame tofu (sesame chicken w/ tofu subbed for chicken) and orange tofu (orange chicken w/ tofu subbed for the chicken). The only way I can describe their tofu... is like if they were able to batter/fry silken tofu, make it crispy on the outside, but silken and delish on the inside. Try it out... thank me later.

Pros: best vegan food in Springfield, lots of options

Nice vegan options

There are a handful of vegan options on the full menu. If you go for lunch they'll give you the lunch menu, but just ask for the full menu. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Pickings are slim in Springfield, so this is a good safe option. They had a nice selection of cocktails as well.

Pros: vegan items on menu, friendly owner

Spicy!

Many dishes can be made vegan if you ask them to leave out the fish sauce. I like the basil rice with tofu. If you order it spicy, be prepared for it to be very hot!

Pros: cost

My Favorite Tofu In The Capital City

This southeast side restaurant is one of my favorites in the not so vegetarian friendly capital city of Illinois. The quality of the vegetables is fresh and the number of dishes on the menu is extensive. I have three favorites that I rotate through. Kung Pao Tofu with Peanuts, General Tso's Tofu and Chinese Eggplant with Garlic Sauce. Veg appetizers are limited to Veg Egg Roll, Fried Wonton, Fried Tofu, and Edamame. Wheat Gluten is available but I have never tried do to avoiding Gluten as much as possible these days.

Pros: Tofu, Wheat Gluten Available, Smiling Staff

Cons: Hot & Sour Soup Has Pork Base
