fine for vegetarian, bad for vegans

neither the tempura nor the pickled daikon are vegan, so rolls available for vegans are cucumber, avocado, and cucumber/avocado/asparagus. Not filling, and they don’t do separate checks so if you go with non-vegans you will pay more than your food cost.
At least the server was knowledgeable about what was vegan and checked repeatedly with the kitchen.

Pros: server knowledgable and helpful

Cons: vegan options extremely limited , expensive for what you get

Best Vegan Sushi in Raleigh

Sushi Blues hands down has the best variety of vegan rolls and vegetarian rolls that can easily be made vegan. Not all the servers are knowledgeable but they have a handful of vegan staff that have been able to work out what’s what and show most staff the ropes.

Here are the vegan options:

Appetizers:
- Edamame
- Age Tofu

Rolls:
- Avocado cilantro roll
- Crunchy (no spicy mayo) roll
- Oshinko roll
- Veggie roll
- Spicy Veggie roll
- Lennon roll
- Fitzgerald roll
- Billie Holiday roll (with steamed sweet potato)
- Cucumber roll

Entree:

Pros: Variety , BOGO sushi , Delicious

Vegan Options Upon Request

Really great vegan options once you figure them out (tough because they’re not marked on the menu). But there are a handful of vegan staff that can help you / your server navigate the menu.

Vegan options:
- edamame
- age tofu
- veggie stir fry (no fish flakes) can add tofu
- veggie Yari soba (no teriyaki sauce sub stir fry sauce, no fish flakes)
- vegetable roll
- spicy vegetable roll
- avocado cilantro roll
- Oshinko roll
- Fitzgerald roll
- crunchy roll (no spicy mayo)
- blue fried rice (no sausage, no egg, no butter, no flakes) can add tofu

Pros: Delicious veggie options, Sushi + Entree options

Cons: Vegan / Vegetarian options not marked on menu

Just "okay"

They used to be one of the top sushi places in the area.
After they went BOGO years ago, and stopped giving the on-the-house spicy noodle snack when you sat down, quality went way down. Rolls are loose and warm (yuck), and when I saw Groupons for them I knew things were as bad as I was experiencing.
I have found that going when it's not busy helps, but a restaurant is measured by its performance at peak-times, not when there are 2 or 3 tables sat.
There are many better places in the area, and even on the same street.

Pros: Atmosphere

Cons: Poor quality, Poor service

If you are vegan, skip this place

I would skip this place if you can. There is no transparency in their ingredients. I had been there several times and was told the tempura is vegan because they don't add eggs to it. During a vegan meetup, we were ensured there were no eggs in it except we had a thoughtful server who decided to ask just to (triple) check. He comes back and tells us the flour itself has whey and dried eggs in it which means all the other times I visited, the servers did not check the ingredients on the flour.

Their vegetarian miso soup is NOT vegetarian and contains fish products.

For vegetarians and those okay with eating eggs/dairy, it's convenient that there is a vegetarian menu. And while their effort is appreciated, I'll go to another place with servers that check ingredients for customers.

Pros: vegetarian menu (though miso soup is not veg)

Cons: lack of ingredient transparency

worst

Terrible sushi. Fish isn't fresh and rolls fall apart.

Better options across the street

OK sushi - servers don't know what is vegan and what's not and they get an attitude when you ask them to ask someone. Doesn't really taste that fresh either (maybe not quality produce??). I didn't have anything that made me what to come back, and even though I've been there several times and tried different things, it's not worth it. Way too expensive

Pros: good location, can eat here with meat eaters, good outside seating

Cons: bad service, bad food, too expensive

Yummy sushi

I would definitely recommend this sushi place for anyone passing through the Raleigh area. The food is great and I was surprised by how many veggie options that they had available. The edamame is delicious and all of the rolls have a unique flair. The buy one get one free special doesn't hurt;p

Pros: Great food, Multiple vegetarian options, Price
