Tip: if you're shocked by the price of the dishes, ask how much they would be without the tea pairing -- it generally knocks around $10 off of the price.
The Castro (18th street) location is the best for those who really want to step into a completely separate, detached bit of the city, simply by walking through a door.
For newbies, I'd recommend the (vegan, gluten and nut free version of) the Japanese Tea Service which gives you good insight into their pov on seasoning and texture.
Note: Stay a while, this is one of the few places where you thankfully:
• will not see people paired with their phones
• do not have wifi
• are completely okay with you staying to digest and appreciate your surroundings, post meal
• can eat, even if you're vegan AND have food sensitivities/allergies
