Great Memory

Posted on 10 / 19 / 2012

As most people who visit/reside in PR know well the majority of the population is living off "survival" food such as beans, rice, root vegetables. Skai the chef, the beautiful conscious woman that she is, sets out to make a difference and increase peoples awareness of nutrition and eating to nourish rather then simply survive. Not only will she greet her customers with absolute warmness she will let you into her kitchen and get a glimpse of what it is to thrive on rawness wholeness. Please support her business, Blessings

Awesome Place, Great Food!

I'm not a religious man but this was a godsend. It's difficult to find healthy food in Puerto Rico so stumbling across Roots and Fruits made my week. It's such a cool place, you walk in to a garden/mini jungle which provides food for the menu. The kitchen is outdoors and open to the garden so if Chef Skai needs more oregano she just needs to take a few steps to pick it. The food was tasty, healthy and reasonably priced. I loved the veggie wrap with the honey mustard dressing! My wife a Puerto Rican and not quite as gung ho healthy food had an empanada with soy protein inside and loved it. There is food for everyone, don't be afraid to bring your friends!

We were also fortunate enough to spend time chatting with Skai about her future plans of a teaching garden and building sustainable housing. It was a such a nice evening and definitely will be one of the lasting experiences from our trip in Puerto Rico.

my family and i stumbled upon this place on the way to el yunque. i was thrilled to see a sign for a vegetarian restaurant in an area not known for veg-friendly food options. the owner was really friendly and warm, and the outdoor atmosphere was perfect- super chill. great prices and great food. we had pretty much everything that was on the menu for savory food options- the empanadas, which were filled with spicy soy protein, the calabaza curry served with rice and peas and yummy sauteed purple cabbage, and the veggie burger wrap. the homemade ginger beer was also on point. bonus: the prices were really reasonable-- $6-$7 for full meals.

Pros: great food, friendly service, affordable
Cons: limited menu, closes early
