Great for take-out

Posted on 01 / 01 / 2015

The food is very tasty and healthy. I've eaten here (or gotten take-out) many times. I recommend the mix of prepared food, sold by weight. A large container is about $10. In addition to a variety of salads, they usually have several bean and tofu dishes, and stuffed grape leaves (my favorite). They also have soups, vegan burgers, and a large selection of juices prepared to order. They only have a small number of tables, so if the weather is nice get take-out and head to Central Park - one block to the west, where you can sit on a bench and enjoy the wonderful food. This is one of my favorite vegan restaurants, but because it's more of a take-out place than a real restaurant, I give it only 4 cows. Certainly worth visiting if you're in the area looking for an inexpensive take-out place.

Pros: healthy and tasty food, quick service (for prepared foods), 1 block from Central Park
Cons: not many tables, mostly for take-out

OK but not amazing

Posted on 09 / 04 / 2014

The food is all healthy and looks amazing, but I found the portions kind of small and the prices a bit high.

It's good, but I wasn't impressed, which is sad after how excited I got by the giant "Go vegan" sign outside.

Pros: all vegan
Cons: mediocre

nothing exceptionnal here

I'm always glad to support vegan places but this one has nothing special. you'd better go to Whole Foods!
the menu board isn't clear at all (half of it is by the pound but it doesn't say, neither do the employees).
on top of that , employees are unpleasant and expect you to guess how this all work.
they have to improve on those points!

Pros: vegan, raw choice
Cons: employees not nice, menu unclear

I had been going to its franchise take-out, One Lucky Duck, for a long time before I finally came to eat at Pure Food and Wine. The food is always amazing and the decor is very beautiful. They have great drinks as well. The service is great and all your food is brought out without a long wait. Its a bit pricey, but its upscale raw vegan in NYC so what do you expect? Its definitely worth each and every single penny you pay.

Pros: Amazing food, Beautiful decor, Great service

Your review is incorrect. The name of the place is not Pure Food and Wine. There is no beautiful decor - it's mostly a take out place. Maybe you're reviewing another restaurant.

Nice find

We happened on Pure, with its big "VEGAN" sign out front, by chance a while back. Today we were in the area again and stopped in. It's super clean and has huge trays of nice salads, many raw, and others like quinoa. The menu on the wall doesn't tell you that everything is available by the pound, $7.95. I tried two, both items were very good. The veg burger is quinoa-based and looked really good; it comes with vegan cheese for $7.95. Worth a stop if you are up Museum Mile, it's only one block over.

Pros: clean, quick
