Good selection and fresh.

Solid place with plenty of options. I was extremely jet lagged and looking for some wholesome food and they did have lots of fresh veggie options and a wide variety.

Pros: Lots of vegan options

Delicious

Pure and Whole is a delicious all plant based restaurant. it offers a variety of food, including burgers, pastas and other noodles, salads, soups and falafel. They seem to serve and act as a more international restaurant since it has food from all kinds of cultures. there is Laksa, a traditional malaysian dish, and it tastes amazing. one of my favorites are the black bean burger or the matchstick pasta.

Pros: all vegan, huge portions, shows macros next to dish (kcal)

Cons: Pricey, small space

Is nice, but small

Great service, great food, just a small restaurant, although they do have an outdoor area, but it doesn’t have a view or shade

Pros: Nice food

Cons: Expensive

Awesome

Nice and fresh. Well sourced ingredients and delicious!

Since arriving in Shanghai area in January of 2021 this has been my “go to” place every weekend when I’m in the city. Very friendly staff, delicious food and a nice walk from the Bund (if you like to walk) if not located by the Ritz Carlton so easy to get a DiDi or taxi.

Pros: Great staff who all speak English, Loved every dish I’ve tried

Good food, crazy prices

They’ve come a long way since I first had them in shanghai six years ago. Menu lists vegan and Buddhist options as well as where modifications can be made. The food yes very healthy and tasty. The spring roll appetizer is fantastic. They have delicious juices which taste amazing.

Pros: Mostly vegan

Cons: Criminally expensive

Upped it's game

I've been in Shanghai for just over a year and my early impressions of P&W were not great. Then earlier this year they had a focus group which I was part of and it seems they have taken on board the feedback. Since then I have been pleasantly surprised with how good the food there is now. They have added new dishes too. The black bean patties are excellent, very tasty with a great density to them. The udon noodles in Japanese curry is a hit, I love it. Staff speak English and the interior is nice. The menu tells you if a dish is vegan, vegetarian and Buddhist (no onion or garlic). They've closed their other branches but hopefully this one will stick around if they keep up this standard.
We arrived back from a christmas get away where we'd been ill and hardly eaten, on the metro home from the airport we ordered food from here to be delivered, as we reached our apartment the delivery guy had just got there too. This food was exactly what we needed, that comfort of great familiar delicious food, we shared a large order of the black bean patties with the green pea dip, I went for my usual Udon noodles which was perfect even after being in transit, my girlfriend went for the lentil soup which was thick, filling and tasty. We were still recovering and so ordered the exact same the following night, it was the right choice. We've been more frequently now the quality has improved, they've brought some new items to the menu but I can't get past the Udon. This place has redeemed itself to become one of my favourites. I can also recommend Manner coffee in the same block of shops, they serve Oatly, the coffee is really good and half the price of Starbucks.

Having been in Shanghai once a month when I was living in Asia from 2013-2016, I miss this place so much. Good to hear they are still around!

Fantastic option in the heart of Shanghai

This small restaurant in the heart of Jing An has a great selection of Western and Eastern vegan options. The place is a bit small, and quite casual, but the food is great. I enjoy the felafel wrap best, and the dessert is great as well.

Pure and Whole

I wasn't a fan of Pure and Whole. I consider myself a pretty healthy vegan and felt the food tasted too healthy for me. I ordered spring rolls and a soup and both were a bit bland. The spring rolls were mostly comprised of vegetables and were small. The soup was made with a clear-ish broth with some radishes and sprigs of leaves. Not to be mean, but I was bored with this meal, really.

Looks good, tastes average

Food looked good, place was nice but the food itself wasn’t all that great, especially for the price. Easy to find.

Very healthy vegan delights

Excellent food on West Nanjing Road. Very clearly labelled for vegans and Buddhists. Food was good, slightly expensive however. Very healthy, missed a few chips with the burger. As you enter the Ritz complex head to the left, don’t go in the actual building.

Varied Veggies

I really liked the wide range of options available at this modern, light place just off Nanjing W Road. The prices are a little higher than other Shanghai veggie places but it makes sense due to the upmarket location and the portions and quality are good.

The black bean patties and dips were tasty and the salads are well dressed and filling. I would have liked to have tried loads of dishes on the menu, as there are great vegan options and all are well marked. A great option in the centre of Shanghai.

Wholesome and perfect for discerning taste buds.

The first thing one notices is the vast array of delicious vegan fare on offer.

The extensive yet concise menu will cause a pleasant dilemma.

We chose the spring rolls which were served with a tangy and spicy dipping sauce, the black bean patties served with a choice of dips and the colourful jungle salad.

Top notch service, food and decor.

Pros: Variety, Service

Great vegan place

It was easy to find. The food is mostly vegan there are only a couple of dishes with dairy so you need to read the ingredients. The menu is in English and has even nutritional info. We tried the mushroom burger, the Californian rap, one of their soups and one of their pastas. All was tasty and healthy. Desserts are delicious too (vegan cheese cake and passion fruit chia pudding). Nearest train station is West Nanjing rd, line 12, exit 14. As soon as you pass Taco Bell, which is near exit, take your left and on the next corner take your left again (you will see UNI QLO big store in the opposite corner). Walk straight 10 minutes (you will pass Zara). When you see big Cartier store the restaurant is crossing the street on that complex on the left side of the Ritz Hotel next to Starbucks.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Healthy

Cons: A little pricey compared to local restaurants

Healthy food!

I’m gonna give this an over all 5 star rating because the menu is so clear and contains all information you might want to know, the place is super cute and the food is pretty good. It’s healthy food though and a bit more pricey than other restaurants in Shanghai but I truly enjoyed it. I got the black bean burger which was good and filling.

Pros: Healthy food , Mainly vegan , Wonderful place

Simple healthy-style food

I got the black bean burger, the awesome curry, the kale quinoa salad, and the ginger tea. The food was simple healthy style food, the taste was ok, nothing amazing. The ginger tea did not have much ginger taste. The kale quinoa salad was my favorite of these, it was a cooked dish but served cold. The decor was nice and the service was good and spoke English well.

A favourite in Shanghai

Always delicious, western cafe style food that is mostly vegan. Soups, dips, wraps, burgers and salads with a changing seasonal menu. Good portions with lots of vegetable heavy dishes. English spoken and they take credit card.

Definitely worth a visit

I had dinner here with two friends and we all thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The menu is mostly vegan and has a great range of starters (spring rolls, quinoa/bean patties, etc), lots of different salads, burgers and other mains including rice, noodle, and pasta dishes. They have some creative drink options and great desserts (we had the chocolate cheesecake), too!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Friendly staff, Good desserts

Cons: Not cheap

excellent delicious great food nice location

Located in shopping area next to ritz Carlton hotel and Starbucks.
Meal creations are organic healthy vegan vegetarian delicious- could not be better. It's an oasis in awful meat jungle called china where no life is sacred.
Nice ambiance, with items such as kale guacamole. Wish I could import to near my home. Love everything. Could not resist trying many items. Very. Nice variety to suit all palettes. It's a nice respite in a city filled with Chinese restaurants. English is ok. Love it!
Big thank you to chef owners for offering wholesome meals. God bless!

Hi Meowww32,

Thanks for your review and kind words. To your point, better ingredients means higher costs, but if you compare our pricing to other healthy concepts, we are not only on par but a better value in many cases.

Anyway thank you for coming and hope to see you again.
