It's a year since I was here and it's as god as ever. We need this in Ireland please. Almond milk "cappuccino" finished off the veg soup and Backyard Salad perfectly. Amazing service to a foreigner too - thank you

Pretty Expensive, but good quality

I have eaten here many times, since vegetarian food is hard to find in Shanghai. I've tried most of their salads and dips. I was a bit shocked to see how high in calories some of their dips were. I'm grateful for the nutritional values but it has stopped me from ordering my favorite ones now. :(

All of their food has tasted great, I just wish the portions were bigger for the price you pay. I love their juices as well.

Prices have gone up in the past few months so I'm a bit disappointed with that. They were already pricey to begin with but now they're even more pricey. But you pay for good quality so I will continue to go there!

Pros: Good quality, Menu selection
Cons: Pricey, Quantity

Good and healthy food, vegan & gluten-free options

I really like the Pure and Whole restaurant. On their website, you can download under the "menus" heading a document "Nutritional info" that shows for all their dishes, whether they are vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free, nut-and-seed-free, soy-free and the caloric contents.

(However, you might still want to check with the cook/waiter whether the dishes you want to order might contain honey, because I have found one juice that is described as "Apple Honey" marked as "vegan" - they might only check for egg/dairy.) The cook has a detailed recipe book that he can consult to verify whether something is vegan or not.

On my various visits, I had the "Green Goddess" soup, which was a bit bland (too healthy), the "Matchstick Pasta" that was very good, the "Awesome Curry", that was also very nice, and the "Raw Apple cake with Banana Cream" that was outright delicious.

Also, if you can, you should try out their dips - they are absolutely incredible.

Prices are not very cheap, especially the drinks, but are ok for Shanghai and the area. However, considering the quality, the food is definitely worth it. During lunch time, they also have a set lunch that is take-away only, which is a great deal at around 45 RMB.

The great, healthy food, the good knowledge that you are really eating vegan food and the atmosphere all work together to make "Pure and Whole" a place you should absolutely try out when coming to Shanghai.

Pros: Ingredients list available, Good and healthy food, Nice atmosphere
Cons: Not cheap, but very good quality

Excellent Food and Staff!

Pure and Whole just opened this location a couple of days ago (as of Feb 14, 2014), and this location carries on the excellent tradition of fine vegetarian food (with vegan options) from their first Jing'An location.

We had excellent service from their staff which is unusual for Chinese restaurants. It had a more western feel than the typical Chinese restaurant. The two managers are foreigners and their English is excellent. It appears most of their staff also know English.

Prices are perhaps a bit high, but reasonable for this location; (average might be 75-100 RMB/person).

The restaurant cannot be spotted from the street. It is to the left of the main entrance to the Shanghai Center, next to the Starbucks (which can be easily seen as you walk towards the Shanghai Center entrance.)

The restaurant is also small, with limited seating. It was crowded during the normal lunch rush hour.

Pros: Tasty, healthy food, Staff speak English
Cons: Might be difficult to find, Limited seating

Thank you, your remark how to find the restaurant was very helpful. Starbucks is to the left of the Portman Ritz Carlton hotel, so you have to go from Nanjing West road into the small entry road leading to the hotel, there you find the Starbucks.
