I had read about this place on HappyCow and stopped by for lunch today. Here's my Pulse Cafe review.
It's a little place that's rather basic, especially for being on Montana Ave where the other shops tend to glisten and dazzle with fancy lights and ritz.
The menu is concise and bland with some sandwiches, wraps, a daily soup, and some baked goods in a case. For drinks there are smoothies, boba tea (with tea bag), coffee, and tea.
Faux chicken and veggie patties are offered, but the sandwiches come with dairy cheese, and the mayonaise is not vegan. I spoke with the owner, a nice woman, and told her about getting some vegan mayonaise (veganaise). She said she would.
The only real animal meats are tuna and turkey. The only vegan food options, though not clearly labeled, is a hummus sprouts wrap and the day's soup which happened to be vegan (white bean and tomato veggies). Wrap came with a side of salad greens, cost $7.50; tasted okay. Soup was $5; good but not hot enough.
The owner definitely needs to learns more about vegan diets if she wishes to have more vegan customers.Pros: cheap eats on Montana Ave, friendly owner
Cons: cheese and mayo in everything, lack of vegan awareness
