Great Sunday dinner option - Edit
Really great Sunday dinner option, unfortunately only the Sunday dinner vegan pie/roast doesn’t contain mushrooms. But still, absolutely delicious and came with all the Sunday dinner trimmings including a vegan yorkie! Will definitely be back.

Good pies - Edit
Really nice pie here. Overall prefer the food at pieminister but if you're after somewhere with a bar pie and ale is great.

Good food! - Edit
Really good food, they have two vegan pies and one vegetarian one. A little spicy but really good. The place is a bit loud as it has a pub as well, but the staff is extremely friendly!

Disappointing - Edit
We’ve been going to pie and ale for years and it has always been one of our favourite spots. Unfortunately the menu has changed, and not for the better.
Read moreToday we had the vegan Sunday roast pie. This was a small square of puff pastry, topped with a single roasted carrot and mash. On the menu this meal was stated to come with a nut roast (which we didn’t get) creamed leaks (which we didn’t get) vegan stuffing balls (came with only one), and a vegan Yorkshire pudding (which was a flat undercooked pancake).
Essentially we paid £10 for a slice of puff pastry with carrot and mash. It was really sad to see the lack of effort in the meal when we have loved this place in the past.
On the plus side, the mash was lovely and the beer selection was nice.
Pros: Couple of vegan options

Great vegan offering - Edit
I've been coming to Pie & Ale for a number of years and have always been impressed. They have a changing menu and always have a number of vegan options both for pies and sides.
Read moreToday I tried the vegan Sunday roast pie which was a layer of puff pastry topped with roasted veg, mash (their mash is vegan as standard) a vegan Yorkshire pudding and a lovely nut roast on the side. £9.95 for the meal made it one of the best value roasts in Manchester for vegans. They usually have vegan creamed leeks but had run out today.

The best vegan pies:) - Edit
This place is affordable, has tasty beers/ciders and has the nicest staff. They have about 4 vegan pies and lots of yummy sides. They also had vegan dessert. Definitely worth a visit. We tried three of them and I thought the best one was the chick pea chili one.

Amazing - Edit
Had the best pie in here, the mash was beautiful and the mushy pies were awesome! The staff were really friendly and pretty knowledgeable about vegan beer (the few I didn’t recognise). Cannot recommend enough going here to try their vegan pies!

Great place with a great atmosphere. Handy to grab some vegan food before a night out in the Northern Quarter. I had the Leek and mushroom pie with mash and its was nice to have a choice of pies on the menu suitable for vegans. Wide range of vegan beers and wines. Staff were great.

Vegan heaven - Edit
We made a special trip to Pie & Ale and were not disappointed! There were tons of clearly labelled vegan options for a restaurant that serves meat. The staff actually ask if you want your meal to be vegan when you order a labelled dish.
Read moreThe white bean, butternut squash and kale pie with mash and mushy peas was heavenly; the portion sizes are HUGE though - I couldn't finish it all!
I will definitely be back to try one of the lighter meals so I have room for the apple pie ☺️

Good pies! - Edit
Pie and Ale is, unsurprisingly, a good place for a pie. When I first visited in 2014 there was only one vegan pie on the menu, but in July 2016 that was up to three: dahl, leek and mushroom, and bean and kale. I had the leek and mushroom, which was a little light on mushrooms, but was really tasty. They serve it with vegan gravy and mash, both of which are good. The pastry on the pie is excellent! There's also a vegan dessert pie if you want to double up. I've never seen any vegan wines labelled there.

has three vegan pie options as well as two vegetarian. we had the white bean, squash and kale which was fantastic, really tasty and filling (better with mash than wedges IMO). Staff were also able to advise about some vegan ales.

I had a lentil shepards pie and it was really nice. There are only two more options for vegans though (if I counted it right) but I guess it's good enough for a nice snack.

So Tasty - Edit
There really isn't much vegan choice, or veggie really, but that is the only negative. The vegan dal pie is amazing, the staff are exceptional and the place is really nice. It's a great option for eating with omni friends.
