Great value

Endless naan and curry. Curry is a bit watery though. I prefer Gopals & Crossways but this is also a good option.

Om vegetarian Collins

If you’re into Indian food, and basically on a tight budget, and want vegan or vegetarian, this is an excellent choice. No limits on amount of servings, you can refill to your heart’s content. Not spicy or too much salt. Balanced in nutritional content, though high on carbs: rice or wheat based. Even in lockdown still popular and real value for money.

Pros: Fast service , Unlimited portions , Not too spicy

Cons: Ambiance of a mall, Sometimes no tables available so wait!

Cheap and tasty

The food was tasty, and only took a few minutes to come out. During the pandemic restrictions they can’t give you all you can eat, and they have a limited menu. Just go with the $7.50 Thaali meal you can’t go wrong.

Pros: Vegan and vegetarian only, Cheap, Tasty

Cheap yummy food

The all-you-can-eat Thali for $7.50 is unbeatable! So yummy and cheap and the staff are friendly. Just ask for it vegan!

Affordable, Flavoursome and all you can eat

Love eating at all the Om Vegetarian restaurants but I like this one the most because it's quiet. They now offer 3 curries, rice and naan in the all you can eat thali which is awesome value. I haven't eaten at a place with better value.

Pros: Cheap , Vegetarian and Vegan only , Filling

Cheap and delicious

$7.5 for an all you can eat thali platter. Food isn’t amazing, but curries change all the time and are mostly very delicious. Fresh bread and rice, quick service. Can’t complain for a cheap quick lunch in the CBD

Great Option for Inner City Eats

Om Vegetarian is always a great option for those in the city looking for somewhere to eat with guaranteed vegan choices.
Their ‘All You Can Eat Thali Meal’ is great value at $6.50, and offers several curries, a serve of basmati rice with peas and butter naan made vegan on request. For the all you can eat, they also have free refills.
They also have a huge range of other samosas and curries, but their all you can eat meal is a bona fide classic.
Sometimes these guys close earlier than stated in the evenings, so best to get in early if you are without other options. Sometimes the shop is not the most clean/hygienic space, but that is part and parcel of being located in the CBD.

Pros: So many options , Great value, Flavoursome meals

Cons: Close early

great lunch

opposed to other previous reviews the portions for seconds are much bigger than the first when you don’t tell them to please please not put that much on to waste any food. I really do love this place for a cheap lunch in the city and the pickle is amazing! (They’re on the right side of the counter and you need to grab it yourself)
The only down side is that sometimes it’s just all beans and rather bland but that’s only about half the time I’ve been and the pickle makes up for it

Pros: Cheap, Easy

Terrible

Apparently the all you can eat menu was not available except for takeaway. So basically we paid for an all you can eat with no refills. Unfriendly staff their accent is incomprehensible

Will not come back

Went there cause I wanted to change from Crossway, so I've tried here.

First the staff was very unfriendly: not a smile, clearly being annoyed working here and me ordering.

I've took a "all you can eat" option: the first serve is an ok portion, so I've ask for a second, that was half of the first one, so I've ask for a third that was basically just the sauce.

Meal was mostly sauce, very oily.

I had almost to beg to have Indian bread every time and she always gave me just one. I haven't ask at first when I ask to be served again, and after waiting 20 min I went asking cause she obviously didn’t want to serve me. Tho she had served bread to other clients without them asking.

So my conclusion is: yes it's cheap, bit staff might be unfriendly, all you can it is less and less each time, but more oily sauce instead.

For the same price you have crossway very close, huge plate (if you can eat 2 full, well done!!), and staff is always nice!!

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Staff, Oily food, Portion

More Indian than Indian

This is the best Indian food that I have had so far in and around Melbourne... for a fraction of the price of other establishments. Very impressed; will be back and will definitely be checking out the other Om Vegetarians as well

Carbfest but cheap

I hadn’t been here in a long time. They’d trimmed the menu, so it wasn’t as interesting any more. Still the carbfest and game of Spot-the-Veggie that it always was. Very cheap though - all-you-can-eat thali still $6.50, samosa $2 - so standard was in keeping.

Pros: Very cheap

Cons: Heavy on carbs, Very few vegetables

Great value, enjoyable meal

I had the $6.50 all you can eat vegan thali with only bread (no rice). It came with a chick pea curry and a mixed vegetable (largely potato-based) curry. Both curries were tasty. The naan without butter was a little dry, but still enjoyable.
The staff were friendly and seemed on top of what is and isn't vegan.
It is certainly a great value meal. The food wasn't as good as at my favourite Indian restaurant, but it's hard to beat the price at Om Vegetarian!

So good, so cheap

For $6.50 honestly you can't go wrong, and every time I've been I've been above impressed with how good the curries are. It's really easy to make the meal vegan (they omit the butter from the bread) and I've always been so full I've never had to ask for seconds. I also love that they feed people in need for free.

Pros: Really tasty curry, dirt cheap, all you can eat

Om Vegetarian

I was surprised by the negative comments. I was very surprised for $6:50 got three dishes, rice and Indian bread (was vegan). Everything was perfect. For that set menu price what more can you ask for? Place was busy, an indication it serves good wholesome food. Next table of 6 people all went back for another serve.
I gave it the Happy Cow sticker.

Pros: 100% plant based, Not 100% vegan. , Busy place, outdoor seating

Disappointing

The food is certainly very cheap - $6.50 for a vegetarian thali. They will make it vegan on request, although the vegan naan is very dry without butter, it's a shame they don't use oil. Food was lukewarm. It sits out in bain marie so you don't know how fresh it is. Quite spicy but the bread helps. In general a very unsatisfying meal, you're better off paying a bit more somewhere else and getting food you can enjoy.

Pros: Easy to get vegan options

Cons: Food was lukewarm, Not very tasty

Cheap Indian food

Since writing this review the place has gone downhill in a big way. We went over the Christmas - New Year break and the food became plain with a few beans slathered in a sauce. Just in case the cook was having a bad day, I tried it again and there were hardly any vegetables. The hot snacks have been replaced by essentially a potato filled samosa and other deep fried potato patty (no more vadi or other typically Indian snacks). If you are happy filling up on carbohydrates (bread and rice) and don't like vegetables or pulses then you might be happy, but it is too carb heavy and tasteless in my view.

The emphasis here is cheap - it serves a purpose but it is no longer a place I go to.

Older review (2015) below--------
This is a really cheap tasty place to go out for lunch in the city. The food is served fresh apart from a few fried items in the bain marie. The only problem is that service can sometimes be extremely slow - so go at the start of your lunch break.

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Slow service, Limited variety, Carb heavy with few pulses or veg

Good but....

I've found this place to be the best of all the Om restaurants. The restaurant is in an arcade and you can sit in the arcade to eat your food. I usually take the vegan dosa which is really tasty, but recently they have started serving tomato sauce with it as a side. I would rather have nothing than the tomato sauce! It is cheap and convenient and they can veganise most things. I think the birds have become a big problem though. Please put something on the door to stop them getting in. I love sparrows but not near my food!

Pros: Cheap, Mostly vegan

Cons: The birds!, Tomato sauce with dosa

Homestyle value

Busy little cafe with wider choice than the other 'Om cafe's. A vegan thali-all you can eat for $6.50-now that's a bargain. Not full of ghee and cream as your usual Indian restaurants and pleasant place to sit inside or in the arcade.

Pros: Easy to order a thali and let them provide you wit, Price, Relatively healthier than other Indian cafes

Amazingly tasty, great value Indian meals; in fact better than most of the Indian restaurants I have been to in Melbourne.

Eager to revisit and try the other meal deals.

Best of the Oms, and best value lunch in the city

Great value, quick and friendly service.

I just had the thali for lunch today (I was really hungry), and now I'm so full!

The thali dishes are not amazing, but are ok , and great value ($6.50 all you can eat).

The other dishes on the menu look more fetching than the thali, and are still appear to be very good value ($7.90 to about $8.50).

Updated from previous review on Wednesday January 28, 2015:
I had one of the dishes off the menu, the spinach and mustard leaves curry.

Pros: Great value, Quick & friendly service, Central location

Cons: Naan a bit too buttery, Curry a bit too salty
