Serves meat, vegan options available. Chain of licensed Mexican bar and restaurants founded 1978 in Burleigh Heads QLD. Uses Sorona-style recipes, and atmosphere is family casual. The updated vegan menu (shown online) offers a variety of choices: dips, tostadas, nachos, burritos, tacos, fajitas, multiple combination platters, and a few desserts. Uses plant-based alternatives in the vegan food, like vegan cheese and sour cream, mock chicken and beef, coconut cream. The house guacamole, hot sauce dip, frijole dip (without the cheese) are vegan. Ask for vegan beer/wine. Reported closed November 2022.

Rats running around the restaurant 🐀 - Edit
I was excited to try this and brought my family here. Ordered some sort of burrito which they said could come with vegan sour cream… tasted more like real sour cream and I was turned off. My husband ordered the ‘Montezuma Special’ and it literally looked like they took raw vegetables and just popped them in a blender, it’s now a running joke in the family. At one point we spotted rats running across the floor. It’s a super cramped space and doesn’t seem very clean at all. The food was really average. Would not go back.

Cons: Not clean , Felt like I was given real sour cream , Not the best service

Great option in Crows Nest - Edit
Super lovely staff, fun interior (especially the booth seating if your group is small), really extensive separate vegan and vego menu. The food was delicious. I'm keen to go back and try more of the menu.

A wide range of vegan options! And good vibes all round! Great atmosphere, quirky lighting and music!!! Pretty good food although small quac and sour cream were very small this is minor critique though. I had the vegan nachos with extra quac and vegan sour cream

Delicious - Edit
Really great mexican food. I love the fact that they have vegan cheese and vegan sour cream. Coming here does not have to be a compromise.
Read moreThe Nachos are really good but the frijoles and ranchero sauce are also really good.
The place is nicely decorated and it feels authentic.
Staff are lovely as you'd expect and I've always very much enjoyed the food from Monte's.

We used to go to Montezuma once a month when they were at Manly and we were so sad when that closed. But then we found out the one at Crows Nest and they offer a vegan menu! Needless to say we have been coming here ever since :D

Amazing Vegan Options - Edit
Dinner here was wonderful. The restaurant is so cute and has a great vibe to it and the wide vegan menu stumped me! I had to ask for the best recommendation to decide and I'm very glad I listened. We were served by Tracy, who also owned the place, and she was very helpful and lovely. Delicious food, amazing atmosphere and great service!

Viva Mexico! - Edit
This is the first restaurant I've been to in Sydney that felt like a Mexican restaurant (form a Southern California point of view). Most places have a Spanish feel, but this place feels more "Californian Mexican" - if that makes sense.

I ordered a vegetarian burrito with no cheese, and the lady said "we have a vegan burrito if you would like". +1!
