Excellent food, great staff, gorgeous views

We’ve been going to Monsoon India for many years and the food is consistently excellent. We are used to very good Indian food back home and Monsoon India rates very high. They have a big vegan section which is not the norm for Indian restaurants. Even a vegan dessert which is delicious! The staff is very accommodating and service is good.

Decent food, breathtaking view

There’s a separate vegan section in addition to the vegetarian section. The chana masala was decently tasty (but medium was mild so I’d order hot next time). We sat by the window at sunset, which was the best part. Super friendly staff too.

Bland

Tried the aloo gobi, chapati and chai tea. The aloo and chai both tasted watery and had barely and spice. I make better Indian food at home in my instant pot. The rice was overcooked so kind of mushy. Way too pricey for no flavor. My husband had similar sentiments about his meaty entree.

Pros: Menu lets you veganize easily when ordering online, Convenient location, Ocean side seating

Cons: Expensive, Bland, Hard to get a seat during meal time

Delicious Indian food! (Edit)

EDIT: We went back for a second time and ate inside instead of take out. We were informed that despite the vegan option being available online for take out and clearly labeled as vegan the Malai Kofta was NOT vegan. They put cheese into the veggie balls and we unknowingly ate it. The waitress tried to cover it up by claiming that take out is somehow different that eating inside and that the vegan malai kofta chef was out. It was clearly crap. Massively misleading and outright dangerous for those with lactose allergies!

The veggie part of the menu has clear indication of vegan options and most veggie items can be made vegan. Awesome samosas (comes with just two, but so good!) and has a vegan Malai Kofta which is a rare thing to find. We were very pleasantly surprised by this place.

AMAZING

Must try for vegans visiting Maui. They have a full vegan section and then a vegetarian section with options identified that can be made vegan. Also have vegan Naan & a Vegan dessert. Absolutely loved my meal.

Pros: Lots of Vegan options, Vegan Dessert, Nice Vibe

Salty and about average food

The location is great next to the seaside. Good ambience. The food is bordering below average. It was really salty and the portions are really small. Be prepared to spend a lot here.

Pros: Vegetarian and vegan options easy to identify.

Cons: Expensive, salty food.

vegan saag

This restaurant has many possible menu options for vegans. Our favorites were the Saag and Aloo Gobi.

Pros: good vegan options, beautiful view

Cons: overpriced, restaurant could use some updating

very good; best eggplant

The cafe itself is very nice, situated w a great ocean view. The staff was very nice, accommodating and helpful.

Some of the food was outstanding. In fact, the eggplant dish (baigan bartha) was the best we ever had. I think they must roast it in the tandoor, perhaps? They definitely did not obliterate the onions like most other places, and Maui onions are very sweet and tasty.

The other dish was less successful, the veggie vindaloo. It did not taste fresh or authentic. So I would not order that again. Part of going out is getting the right dish, we happened to stumble on their best and something that was passable.
They did charge for rice. We liked the apps too.

Good spot, hopefully we go back to Maui and we would stop again.

Pros: eggplant, ocean view, staff

Cons: vindaloo

Enjoyed by veg*n and omnivorous friends and family

I've eaten here 3 times: regular dinner, Sunday brunch buffet, and Friday night dinner buffet, and have greatly enjoyed my meal each time. For our last night on Maui, we invited a group of over a dozen friends and family: one other vegan, one vegetarian, and the rest omnivore. Everyone was raving about the food and the atmosphere. One of the omnivores said he enjoyed the vegan food more than the meat side of the buffet.

BTW, the vegetarian side of the buffet at the Friday night dinner was all vegan except for the naan bread which had dairy in it. (The Sunday brunch buffet had at least 3 or 4 vegan choices.) The korma, made in many Indian restaurants with dairy, was vegan and made with conconut. Every item was delicious, including the korma, channa masala, and vegetable dishes. Buffet items are not labelled as to what is vegan, but the friendly knowledgeable staff will point out which dishes are.

The atmosphere is awesome, particularly if you get there just before sunset, and watch the sunset over the ocean thru the west side which is open to the outdoors. The strings of small lights add to the festive atmosphere. Despite the place being more than half full, acoustics were good and we didn't have to shout to be heard.

Plenty of restaurant parking in the designated area of the lot, all 3 times we were there.

The only drawback I see is that the buffet price is double the buffet price back home in Maryland, but it is moderate by Kihei standards.

Pros: Delicious Food, Lots of vegan options., Awesome ocean view

Cons: Expensive by mainland standards, (But moderate for Maui.)
