Tempeh Scramble is bomb

I get why people are giving this place a 3 stars since the vegan option are limited, but the options they do have are bomb and I am always happy when a place has a couple vegan dishes!

A couple of good breakfast options

Probably not the best place to go as a vegan because there were only a few options (and two of then were variations on a tempeh scramble), but the service was great and I did enjoy their "Paul's Tempeh Scramble."

Good for a one-time visit when with non-vegans

Absolutely delicious but no sub for eggs

I had the Paul's Tempeh scramble and the flavor was AMAZING! There were a few other options that could be veganized. Very nice staff! Has GF toast! I was told they would sub the eggs out but it was just the ingredients minus the egg. I'd order it again though!

Pros: - A few vegan options , - GF toast available for those of us that require

Cons: - No egg substitite

Love them

All the food I’ve had here is absolutely amazing! Extremely easy for vegetarians and they have vegan and gluten free options easily done with swaps. I went with a gluten intolerant friend, and she asked for no bread (mentioning nothing about her diet). The waitress asked if it’s because of an intolerance and if she would rather have the gluten free version in the oven, which was highly appreciated and thoughtful.

The only reason I didn’t give it a full five stars is because both times I went the wait was an hour long... Although, I think it’s worth it, and they have a nice and transparent system allowing customers to see the waitlist and time waiting.

Pros: Delicious , Friendly staff, Accommodating

Cons: Wait time

My favorite in boone

This is my favorite lol spot to stop in for breakfast or brunch while in Boone. The tempeh is out of this world and made right here in North Carolina. My favorite thing to order is the tempeh scramble without eggs. Super cozy inside and great coffee too

Pros: Good options for breakfast/brunch, Cozy atmosphere

Cons: Long waits

Great brunch place

This is a very popular place in downtown Boone. Come early and be prepared to wait. I recommend the tempeh scramble without the eggs. Excellent! Not an all vegan place but good vegan options.

Pros: Easy to find, Nice outdoor seating

Cons: Only 1 bathroom, Long wait for seating

Good vegan options and helpful staff!

Several vegan options, and more if you are willing to talk to the staff. Tempeh scramble can easily be made vegan without eggs, and I have substituted the eggs in Potato Madness for extra veggies multiple times before. Most frequently I get a side of tempeh, a side of homefries, and a fruit cup which is satisfying. Their tempeh is delicious. They don’t cook either the homefries or the tempeh in butter! Staff is very understanding so tell them that you are vegan. It’s a great place with a very “Boone” feel.

Not Vegan

I have been eating the mushroom gravy for months after being told it was vegan multiple times. Today I was told it actually has whey protein in it. I am super upset and disappointed that this local business does not have vegan options and does not educate their staff on what is in their food.

Cons: no vegan options , staff not knowledgeable about food ingredients

Not vegan friendly.

I visited this restaurant in 2010 and I've never been back. I have deadly milk allergies. I don't remember what I ordered, but despite discussing my allergies with my server, my breakfast cost me a trip to the emergency room. If they cannot keep dairy out of their food for someone with deadly milk allergies, you can sure as hell bet they are not going to be paying that close of attention when you say you are vegan.

Pros: nice atmosphere, friendly staff, food was tasty

Cons: almost died, medical expenses, x_x

really yummy!!!!

Although right off the bat it might not seem that there are a lot of vegan options but there are, you just are going to have to create them yourself. What I mean by this is instead of biscuits and gravy toast and gravy which really is delicious. I love the restaurant I think it has great food and I enjoy it every time I go there

Vegans, Be Warned!

We went for breakfast once, and have not returned since. Melanie's offers a tofu and tempeh scramble which both contain honey--and these were the only 2 vegan options on the menu. The fact that their "vegan" option is listed incorrectly on the menu is both alarming and upsetting. The food just wasn't good and our server pretended to know what vegan was then served us toast with butter and non vegan bread, then acted annoyed and condescending when we sent it back because we couldn't eat it.

We sent an email to the owner of Melanie's to complain about their lack of vegan food and the rude service of the wait staff. He informed us of the honey in the meal we ate. Only after the fact did we find out that the food we had carefully ordered to be cruelty free was not vegan. We contacted Melanie's about this issue in December and the owner promised to send us a gift card in hopes that we would try the place again. It's been over 6 months and the gift card still has not yet arrived.

I do not recommend this place to anyone--not only because you don't know what you're actually eating but because the restaurant staff and personnel really don't seem to care about their customers. For a place to tout itself as vegan friendly and slip animal products into its food is unacceptable. It left us wondering what else had gotten into our scrambles that wasn't vegan.

Pros: cute vintage atmosphere

Cons: not really vegan-friendly, no soy milk for coffee, appalling service

world's best veggie burger!

After stepping into the vintage, kitschy world of Melanie's, I was promptly seated at one of their mismatched, Brady Bunch-inspired tables. I ordered the "world's best veggie burger" with feta (vegan cheese is also an option), garlic aioli and home fries. The homemade burger was comprised of a rainbow, confetti-like assortment of diced veggies and flour(?). Aside from a phenomenal veggie burger I once had the joy of consuming at a Washington, DC tea house, I thoroughly enjoyed this meal at Melanie's. I could've gnawed on it for days :)

Pros: delicious food, prompt, friendly service, casual atmosphere

Cons: small space, parking can be an issue (near ASU)
