Serves meat, vegan options available. An outside cafe in Makawao town center (no indoor seating). The owner usually runs the cafe herself with a helper in the kitchen. Food is served quickly in to-go ware only. If you specify your veg/vegan requests, she will accommodate. For example, in the quinoa & grilled eggplant salad you can request to omit cheese, as same with the grilled eggplant sandwich. Her husband bakes the foccacia bread used for the sandwiches, and that's made without dairy or eggs. The daily soup is sometimes vegan. There is also a Asian sesame salad plus you can request an avocado sandwich without cheese or mayonaise. Open Mon-Sat 11:00am-2:30pm.

Always good for a stop

Yummy food with nice owner and nice location and one of the best self made Kombuchas I've ever had.😄The vegan cauliflower wrap was also delicious!

Great Focaccia Sandwich Bread

I had read about this place on happycow and decided to give it a try. Wash here in December 2012, and here's my Makawao Garden Cafe review.

It's casual place in the town center with only outdoor seating under umbrellas. The menu is displayed out front, so you can see what's offered. The owner, Kathi, was there to greet us and told us that she could accommodate vegans by omitting dairy.

The day's soup was a coconut thai soup, and that was alright. The quinoa and eggplant salad is tossed in a vinagrette dressing, and that was pretty good-very tender eggplant. You can also get an grilled eggplant sandwich. The foccacia bread used for the sandwiches is vegan and totally delicious. They don't sell them here, though, except for advance ordering.

The ambiance is relaxed and dining style is basic. Prices are inexpensive.

Hi Chia, thanks for the review. I've had their Thai coconut soup and thought it was very mediocre. Also important to note, while their foccacia bread may be vegan, they have no sandwiches on the menu which are vegan. In fact there are very few vegan options via customization, and there are no vegan options already on the menu.
