Great vegan options

Posted on 07 / 04 / 2014

If you like Asian flavors, I think this is the best vegan restaurant in Den Haag. They have a wide variety of dishes, mainly Thai and Chinese, ranging from mild to very spicy. Everything I tasted so far was really good and well seasoned, you can really tell that this is authentic asian cooking. Service is also very attentive. Portions run on the small side, but main dishes are only 7 to 10€, so adding a starter won't break the bank.

Pros: Great food, Great Service, Cheap
Cons: None

I went a few times to this restaurant to try out a few dishes. Some dishes taste OK, but some dishes need improvement. The service was bad, but they are doing their best to improve it.

Pros: Variety of Asian dishes, Close to the beach
Cons: Too expensive for what you pay, Food is not always good prepared

Asian vegetarian cuisine at its best

Posted on 12 / 29 / 2013

Asian vegetarian restaurant close to the "Kurhaus" in Scheveningen, easy to reach by tram and bus.

"Leaf" has an extensive and varied menu with Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and Malaysian traditional dishes (vegetarian version) as well as Asian fusion dishes. Other than other Asian vegetarian restaurants in The Netherlands they also have quite a few vegetable dishes with no mock meat involved. All dishes - with and without mock meat- I had so far were very tasty. Most dishes are vegan. The vegan desserts are great, too!

Very friendly staff, fluent in English and Dutch.

Pros: great food, nice staff, good variety of food

Great starters!

The food is very good. But you must indeed order different things and share them with the others on the table. We took several starters (the crepes are great) and two main dishes. One of the main dishes (shiitakes) was more a side dish, if you use it as such it doesn't matter.
The tapioca dessert with mango and cocosmilk(named Sago) was served cold (normally warm in Asian kitchen but because Europeans are used to cold desserts they made it cold) and very special.
We payed 41 euro's for 3 starters, 3 'main' dishes, 2 desserts and a lot of tea.

Pros: fresh food, nice people, cheap
Cons: ugly toilets

Great asian food

Leaf vegetarian is a nice restaurant located in a hotel. Almost every dish on the menu is vegan.

We had a hard time choosing what too eat, since there's just so much to choose from! We had a great mix of starters, and even ordered some more soy ribs since they were so good...

The main dishes are not very big, the best way to order seems to have a few different things and share then with everyone at the table. Since we had so many starters we just had one main dish each with fried rice or noodles, and it was very satisfying.

Everything tasted and looked great. This was definately not a typical 'Dutch Chinese' restaurant, even though they told me they held back on the spiciness of some stuff (I had chilli beef which had two red stars, but wasn't very spicy at all). Lots of different flavours and dishes on the menu. I will be back soon to sample some more!

Pros: Affordable, A lot of vegan stuff on the menu, Great service
