57 Cals

Jardin, assiette 3/4 frites, quelques autres affaires...
Pita patate; personne a encore osé

One of the only vegan options in Laval

This little place has been around for years. They make everything to order (which can affect wait times) and the prices are very reasonable.

They have a trial platter which can be nice for bringing to gatherings or for trying some of their different menu items.

The restaurant itself is very small and offers a few tables to eat in (I don't think this was the case many years ago) but it can fill up quickly and could be a bit tidier and cosier. If you are getting an order to go, you can call ahead.

Many years ago, I tried the Zoi sandwich and don't remember liking it enough to get it again or to go back for a while.

More recently, I went back and tried the garden wrap which was really yummy and filling (almost too much as a trio). This is my top pick so far. That said, the way it is made has not always been consistent. I've had it a few times where it was falling apart which made it difficult to eat (I think there might have been too much sauce).

I tried the shish taouk plate. It was interesting (hummus tasted very authentic) but I found it difficult to eat. The vegan chicken was in crumbled pieces and then mixed together with the fries. I thought they did a pretty good job with the chicken in terms of texture and the taste wasn't bad but I wasn't sure about the flavor after a while. I enjoyed it more with the garlic sauce. I tried it in sandwich form another time and it was definitely easier to eat and was tasty but I could still taste the difference in terms of the chicken (which is normal as it isn't chicken) and in the end still preferred the garden wrap.

The samosas were good (spicy), the fries as well (generous portion) and the falafels were just ok for me.

I also tried the poutine which is a nice vegan option to have. There are two sizes and even the smaller one (medium) was a bit larger than I would have personally chosen. It was the first vegan poutine I tried and it was pretty decent though there was a flavor that started to stand out after a while (mushroom?).

As a customer, I would appreciate knowing a bit more about the ingredients used (for example, in the poutine, what kind of "cheese" is used and what is their sauce made of; what is in the garlic sauce, etc.).

Definitely a good option for someone interested in exploring vegan food with familiar dishes.

Feels like i'm cheating

I’m glad that this place is still open and going strong. They now sell their products in natural food stores also.

The first time I visited this place was a few years back. I felt like I was cheating, like a person that eats fries and shouldn’t. I found the food very tasty, but very greasy. It was very good, but I felt bad after eating.

I always think being a vegan starts with trying to eat healthier foods before anything else and the fact that 57 cals was selling commercial soft drinks like Coke (and still is) distracted me from reviewing this place. I did not want to bring it down since I was really REALLY happy to see this VEGAN restaurant in LAVAL.

I went back this week, they are still selling soft drinks etc. but added coco water and other drinks to the drinking menu. I guess as a restaurant owner you need to think of all your customers and if they want that type of drink you just sell it them.

Don’t get me wrong, this restaurant is still very tasty and the portions are big. But I still feel like I’M cheating when I eat here.

Pros: Big portions, Very tasty

Cons: Feels too much like fast food, Feel like I'm cheating on my diet, Very greassy

Decent vegan option in Laval

57 Cals is a really decent option for vegans in Laval. Their shish taouk wrap is awesome. Their philly sandwich is also great - my meat-eating dad and brother both love it. My only issues are that it's a little slow for being a counter service restaurant, and I wish their seating area was a little more inviting. I would love to bring my friends and hang out over a good meal, but the seating area is crammed with harsh lighting, so you kinda just wanna eat and go. Or do takeout.

Pros: Tasty food, Friendly staff

Cons: Small seating area, Service a little slow, Heavy on the onions

As good as Vegan can get!

Looking for some exotic tastes and flavours? 57 Cals is simply charming. Not only do they deserve a mention for being a vegan restaurant in Laval, I can confirm that it is worth the detour even if you live east of highway 25! They also offer catering services (I have used their catering services myself already and will definitely use it again). Went there many times and had each item on the menu, I have never been disapointed. Long live 57 Cals! I provide my #2Bvegan4 approval seal without hesitation!

Pros: Tastes amazing!, Many items on the menu, Also offers catering services

Cons: Very few seats available to eat on site, In busy hours, getting your order may take a while

THE spot for good fast food

Although the restaurant is not located in a charming area, the owners are exceptionally nice and always willing to accomodate you.

Forget about bland, healthy, fat-free vegan meals. There, you rejoice : salty, greasy, yummy, just like any fast food joint, except this is cruelty free. And the portions are huge.

The menu is quite fun too with veganized version of Libanese food among other things

Pros: Nice staff, Very good value, Enormous portions

Cons: Lack of atmosphere, No toilet

trop huileux

Wonderful treat

They use the same amazing falafel recipe as Crazy Falafel except 57Cals is all vegetarian/vegan.

The vegan Philly burger is filled wth tofu but doesn't look or taste anything like tofu. I have high standards and this blew me away. Unlike the photo, though, the green peppers are sauteed... which it's a very good thing!

My meat-eating friends loved their food as well. Lucky for them, they live in the delivery zone (Laval via justeat.ca). I'll just have to find an excuse to go there more often! My goal is to eventually try everything on the menu.

Convince your car-driving friends/family to give you a lift... it's definitely worth the trip.

Pros: Best falafel recipe, Tasty vegan "meat", Worth the trip

Cons: Location, Limited Delivery Zone
