Chinese vegetarian restaurant. Extensive menu selections of vege meats, tofu, and vegetable dishes. Most items are vegan, saucy, and full of flavor. Cheap lunch specials offered during the week; weekend prices are more. Complimentary hot tea. Has brown rice. Nice atmosphere though very busy at meal times. Accept credit cards when over $20. Can accommodate small or large parties. Reported closed, Feb '20.

Pretty good

Food was pretty good. Couldn’t exactly tell what’s vegan vs vegetarian from menu. Staff was very friendly though. Interesting and unique flavors.

Saucey and Flavorful

I had read about this place on happycow, and have eaten here numerous times. Was just here again for lunch, Jan 2014. Here's my Happy Veggie Garden review update.

This pure vegetarian restaurant opened back in the summer of 2006 and has since established a regular following. The original chef and some staff came from the long-time operating Happy Family Veg Restaurant that's also located in Rowland Heights, though ownership seemed to have changed again in 2013.

My family and I like to come here for the bargain lunch specials where each entree costs between $5-7 and includes a main dish, rice or fried bread, soup, and hot tea (weekday only). The food is made-to-order and served hot. Lots of flavors and lots of choices including mockmeats, tofu, and veggies.

It gets really busy and noisy on weekends so come early around 11am if possible. Weekdays are no problem, and the service is quick and courteous.

Dinner menu is also extensive, prices moderate between $8-14 per main entree.

I recommend: Tofu and basil in hot pot, Buddha's feast (stir fry veggies), steamed dumplings, crispy fish with sesame (don't worry, it's mock fish), and sweet & sour taro ribs.

The only complaints I have is that the food is typically very saucy (too much for me) and often contains sugar and salt, so I would suggest ordering some light vegetable dishes to balance out the meal.

Pros: many choices, flavorful

Cons: lots of salt, and oil

Many options and friendly service

Vegetarian restaurant with a decent selection of vegan-friendly dishes. Some dishes can be greasy, though, even when asked for light oil.

My favorites there are the lion head (meat ball), their special green soup (can't remember what it's called), and their mung bean porridge. They do a great job with the texture of the faux meat. The BBQ eel had a texture (and taste) very close to the real thing.

The rest of my family (all non-vegan, non-vegetarian) all like this place as well, so it's become a regular venue for us.

Beware that the service may be slow sometimes.

Pros: selection

Cons: slow

almost like being in Taiwan

I often really miss the veggie food of Taiwan since I lived there for a few years and it's nice having Happy Veggie Garden around as they offer excellent Chinese / Taiwanese cuisine. It's very affordable, hope the prices stay as they are. So far, everything I've tried there has been pretty good. For something very Taiwanese, try the pan fried turnip cake.

Mean waitress, good food

I found this restaurant while browsing Happy Cow when I was hungry one day, so I made it a mission to go here. The first few times I went, I felt the same as the rest of the reviewers on here. Great food (although not all vegan) and good service. They even poured my tea for me, and served my soup. I thought this place was a sure thing, so I decided to bring my boyfriend. I'm not really sure what happened, but all the times we have gone together the service has been absolutely terrible. We always get the same waitress (not the older one, and there are only two females). This woman is beyond rude. I was ordering my food, and she walked away before I was done! I had to say "Excuse me I'm still ordering." When the food did arrive, one of the dishes was not what I ordered. She proceeded to raise her voice and say "You ordered noodles, not soup!" I gave up that argument and took the noodles. I then asked for a rice bowl to eat my main entree with, and she refused to give me one because I had a bowl that the noodles were in. I explained I still wanted a bowl for the rest of my food, and she came back and slammed 4 bowls on the table. What am I going to do with 4 bowls? My boyfriend asked for a Sprite. She came and put the can on the table and walked away. No cup, no ice. I had to ask the busboy for it. The last time we went (and it will be the last) she didn't take our order for 15 minutes. I hate to say this, but I've noticed that Chinese people get preferential treatment here big time. My boyfriend is Asian, but not 100% Chinese, and we are a mixed couple. I honestly believe this is why the service suddenly changed. In any case, this waitress is the worst I have ever come across. Despite how good the food might be, we will never go back there. The only reason this place got 2 stars from me is because it won't let me choose 0.

Pros: Good food

Cons: Horrible waitress

Another good find thru Happycow! DELICIOUS!

Found this place after looking for a new place to dine in the Industry Hacienda area on Happycow. It did not disappoint. The place is super clean, service is good, prices fair and the food is EXCELLENT. My fave dishes are the taro croquettes, tofu pot with basil and egg plant, dumplings, shredded soy and green veggies, black pepper steak (tofu or soy) and my boyfriend loves the fried bread. A must when in the area. Happycow has been a good source for us!

Pros: tasty food, prices are fair, clean (hard to find sometimes)

Cons: busy center

Excellent veg cuisine

Our family has enjoyed Happy Veggie Garden since its opening. Every dish we've tried is well-prepared and delicious. Their selection is extensive and the wait staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and patient. The meal includes tea, and usually a small salad or nuts as a starter and oranges at the end. We are always made to feel welcome and that our patronage is valued. They are especially good with children.

Pros: Tasty food, good value, friendly staff

Cons: None

I think Happy Veggie Garden is the best Chinese Vegetarian restaurant in US. I've tried many different chinese vegetarian restaurant in different places or states. This one is the BEST! It is very tasty, good prices, good quality, and the waiter/waitress there are friendly and helpful. The owner is very nice, too. You won't be disappointed.

Pros: delicious dishes, clean, friendly

Cons: parking can be hard
